Power Management across fire groups. Have I got it wrong?

Hi there.

My understanding is that with good power management and assigning priority to modules, you can run with a total power demand in excess of 100% without issue.

The obvious one is dropping cargo hatch to 3 or running with 3 Auto Field-Maintenance units when exploring but having these turned off until you need them as the unit being repaired does not draw power.

My current fire groupings are as follows.

1) 4x multi-cannons and the advanced scanner
2) 4x multi-cannons and the Kill warrant scanner
3) 4x multi-cannons and 2x beams

I have just gone from a C rated KWS to a B and this pushed my power demands over 100%. I understand why this has happened. I made the assumption that with the beams not assigned to the fire group, they would be unpowered ut of course they are still deployed at the same time as the KWS, just they do not have a fire button assigned.

Other than going into the module screen during a fight and switching the beams off when scanning manually, to then return to this screen to turn the beams on and the KWS off when fighting, is there a why to use the priority settings to manage this automatically?

Thanks for any input.

Everything that is deployed uses power regardless of if it is in your current fire group. You can change the modules on the fly but you are better off having either your advanced discovery scanner or kill warrant scanner off in advance depending on what you are doing.

Use the priority system in combination. Higher numbers go off first so for example, set FSD to 2 and if you go over budget with weapons deployed, it will switch off.

Power off duplicate modules manually.

Yes , it is possible...

In my bounty hunting viper , I'm sitting at 111% power use in total.

2 class 1 fixed lasers , 2 class 2 giballed guns , Kill warrant scanner , shield cells...etc etc...

I have everything set to priority 1 apart from

Shield Cells is set to 2
FSD is set to 2
cargo hatch is set to 3

What that means is when I go into a fight , FSD , Shield Cells and cargo hatch power down and when I want to use a shield cell (not often) or FSD to get out of there I have to retract my weapons.

Using Shield Cell means I have to allow a second for the weapons to stow...so some planning is needed , before the cell nerf I could have kept them online , but it added an extra 1% power use to them taking me to 101% with them on.

I use voice attack , so when I say 'deploy shield cell' , my system stows weapons , waits 1.5 seconds , uses a cell and then re-deploys the weapons for me without having to touch a key.

Thanks for that.

I had already set none essentials to 2 and 3.

It was just the KWS that was pushing me over. Guess I will be dropping down to the C.
