Power maps preview

Well, it seems to be working, so here's the maps and other connectivity tools

Only about 6300 systems reported via EDDN as having assigned Powers so far, which is about 3/4 done, I think, so the maps are going to be incomplete, but they should regenerate nightly and hopefully be a little more correct by the Wednesday night.

The quieter systems in EDDN might only get a ping every couple of weeks. I'm hoping that at least most Fortified/Stronghold systems (and systems where something is going on!) will get refreshed quicker than that, so the default assumption of "same as the previous week" won't be too bad most of the time.

A new addition to the tools - https://heatmap.sotl.org.uk/powers/loose

This picks up on Exploited systems in the database which don't appear to be in range of a Fortified/Stronghold one, as a general check on how patchy the EDDN data is.

(It doesn't help that players not pledged to a Power don't report Power allegiance even if they're in a controlled system, which is going to make reliably dropping defeated systems tricky... I've got what I can set up, but don't expect the early maps of a week to be very accurate!)

Hi Ian,

I'm getting a Laravel error for the map.

Symfony\Component\Routing\Exception\RouteNotFoundException

Route [powers.loose] not defined.

thanks,
Andrew

Yey! Now I can keep track of my Power's strongholds because I now know which they are. The current in-game Galactic map can be difficult to read. Great work! 😁👍

Another extra report: https://heatmap.sotl.org.uk/powers/dataage

Just gives an idea of how much EDDN updating there is across the various territories (and by comparing with the in-game leaderboard, whose territories are being undercounted entirely) so you can know how big a pinch of salt to take the rest of the data with.

There's an interesting spread at this half-way point in the week between Power-controlled systems (mostly updated already) and neutral systems (mostly not): whether this is because PP is heavily-focusing EDDN users' activity on relevant systems, or because no-one of any sort is going to the bubble's fringes much is harder to tell.
