D
I can only describe the extreme guitar riffs as the most uplifting music I have ever hear.

The lyrics are incredibly energetic, which puts my brain into high gear.

Basically, I find power metal to be very good for my health.

And thankfully, this genre is huge. I will never run out of material.

Music is awesome. And kind of scary, when you think about it.
The fact that you can be emotionally influenced by vibration of air molecules doesn't really say much about human body resilience and brain function. :|

(my go-to music when I hit the bottom is dark country. There is something very satisfying in that thick, full sound)

House music...although thats a general term...right now its dark tribal underground from some radio station in Japan. Helps me to concentrate and calms me down ^

My daughter has inherited my love of electronic music and experiments with producing her own and studied the science behind how tracks are made and affect mood. Shes autistic and uses music to chill with, and has written a research paper about it for her GCSE coursework. She really doesnt listen to much else...my fault as its just the two of us ^

I think against depression cheery things full of vigor best. Not necessarily music! The point is, if you lack of life energy, and sad? Than you need something to lift you up.
Don't do drugs! This is how dangerous habits like alcohol addictions start. Just make some fun, get your mood up from the ground.
The problem with metal in this question? It (can) also create aggressive impulses.

Acid trance? Hypnotic enough to get in your mind calm you down, create an order within your toughs, by giving them a rhythm, but not makes you fall asleep.
It's just works like a metronome.

Edit:- Sorry, I thought you said 'you wanted help with your depression'.

It's been scientifically tested that classical music improves your mood. You should try that instead.

As an individual noone shoukd care about such group-level studies. Anyway, to each his own. Some people, when feeling a bit down or downright depressed, cant stand upbeat music. Its like seeing happy couples everywhere after a break-up. Others need it. What works works. :)

I use the dark country stuff in place of the vanilla Elite music a lot of the time. It makes playing way way more atmospheric.

I used to use this one to help me get depressed.

It's for when you're mildly low but not quite yet constructing a rope over your bathroom door. Self-destruction takes effort!

Music is subjective. If it makes you feel good, then more power to you. I prefer old Soul personally although I do enjoy heavy rock too. I also enjoy some classical. But some old soul really swings me along nicely. Or anything by Orbital.

Probably more the outside stimulus breaking the internal hampster wheel of doom, than the actual airwaves.

Still prefer physical activity for long term stability. (yea, playing the air guitar to Clawfinger counts as physical activity :D ... you're never too old to be silly and way too old to feel embarrased when the neighbors see you :p )

1984 not only gave us Elite, it gave us this as well.

"Warning: The Surgeon General has determined that Heavy Metal is dangerous to your health."

Just ignore that warning :D

I'm Generation X.... (resists urge to post music video links.....). I love house music, I really love most electronic music tbh, but old school rave most of all....

I work with someone with Asperger's. She earns more money than me. Good for her though... she earns her money because she does a good job.

Older first generation here...dont know how to post links, gets daughter to do it if I find I absolutely have to. Aspergers is on the autistic scale with some being worse than others...higher functioning and lower. Music is a huge influence on her and me...without it, tempers flare and concentration goes out the window ^
