Power Plant Efficiency Ratings

Hi,

Possibly considered as a noob question, but could someone advise me the efficiency hierarchy when it comes to Power Plants?

Is a Eff: B better than one of Eff: D or is it the other way around?

Thanks & Regards

A is the best, E the least efficient.

That's valid for all types of Upgrades and also reflects in their price.
Things get a tad tricky when you start comparing different Classes (i.e. a Class 2C vs. a Class 3D), but most fundamental figures are given in the lower right Corner when you just move the mouse over them.

Alternatively, you can always click on an item and then select "compare" to compare it to your currently fitted equipment.

Bump.... Anyone?

I'm referring to the Heat Efficiency.

When it comes to the Heat Efficiency, it's the same.

A Grade Power Plant offer the ideal Heat Efficiency - E Grade Power Plants the worst.

You'll see the difference immediately via the reduced Heat output in normal space, when charging your FSD or that you can get more out of your same Fuel Scoop (as you can get a bit closer to the sun before reaching 100% heat).

A is "best in class" and E is last. For power plants, this is mainly about available power output.

However, you might want to check other factors as well, such as mass and heat efficiency. Sometimes it's better to have a lower rated power plant and save weight. Sometimes you can even take one or two sizes lower (e.g. my T7 has a 2a instead of a 4 something, if I remember correctly).

Yes exactly. A grade A class 5 will dissipate heat just as well as a Grade A class 1. The only difference is the amount of power provided and of course weight. So if you only need 10 MW of power then using the max class power supply on a Type 7 doesn't make sense. However using the Grade A of whatever class you go with does make sense. It always you to boost till your finger falls off without overheating. Lets you get closer and fuel scoop more without going over 100% and lets you use laser weapons longer before overheating.

Always shoot for an A grade powerplant regardless of class.

But that's my opinion.

Safe Travels commander.
