Powerplay Power Play Merit Decay is over 50%

At the end of the last cycle I had over 10000 merits (I think it was 10240)
I made 5220 of those during the last cycle.

With the 50% decay I should start with 5120, so why do I only have ~44% (4489) carried over from last week?

It is not simply 50% of your total.

It is infact, 50% of what you made last week, +50% of what you made 2 weeks ago, +50% of what you made 3 weeks ago.

So, if you made 1000 each week for 4 weeks you would have
End of week
1. 1000 you make
2. 500+ 1000 you make
3. 250+500 +1000 you make
4. 125+250+500 +1000 you make.

Thats what happened to me. I had over 1500, I lost almost half. No wonder people get fed up of the grind. With rot like that I can't be bothered. I can make 5 mils faster in a Res site.

That doesn't add up

Last week I made about 5220
Week before it was just over 5000 (5040 I think)
Already 50% of just those two weeks should result in 5130, and that isn't even counting the week before, which I accumulated a similar amount.

The couple of days (I started mid week) I managed to go rating 1 to rating 4, then to rating 5, and have been there since. The largest amount I had to accumulate was from rating 4 to 5, since then I have been getting just over 5000 each time.

EDIT:
Hang on, error above
50% of 5220 = 2610
25% of 5040 = 1260
12.5% of ~5000 = 625
===============
= ~ 4495

Ok, I see it now. I think they should update the in game UI to make this clear.
i.e. Carried over from last week, Carried over from two weeks ago, Carried over from three weeks ago

That doesn't explain, why he has only 4,489 though. As we can see, he is currently rank 5, which means he had at least 10k merits before the new cycle began.

So there's no way he can have less than 5k now, except if he comitted treachery multiple times.

The initial calculation that was objected to was that the start total was not exactly half of the total at the end of the last cycle. That should not be the expectation, this was what I was replying to.

Yeah, agree, it is not necessarily clear and there was a lot of debate about how it was supposed to work the first few weeks PP came out. Also, I personally find the concept of decay ok, but Under current rules, a bit harsh. But I accept others have different opinions.

I think the biggest confusion is every single previous cycle roll over the carry over was exactly 50% of the end of week total. But this week it wasn't, and it isn't clear anywhere in the game as to why it is different. I did see some discussion about the previous calculation, but because my observations were different, i assumed it was changed to be simply just 50% of the total merits (which would probably be better in my opinion. It starts become enough of a grind just to make 5000 in a week)

IIRC it started as exactly %50 of the total, but that was not how it was supposed to work. I imagine it might change again :)

Yeah, they might change it. Or at least add some more interesting ways to accumulate merits.

I have just played with some values in a spreadsheet, and I can see to maintain rating 5 you need to accumulate 5340 each week.
If you do that from the start you would reach rating 5 by end of week 4. I think the thing that throws it off is the extra effort to get from rating 4 to 5 earlier. You end up with one week where you accumulate a lot more merits (I think it was between 7000 and 8000) for me. The effect this has when it is no longer part of the carry over takes you by surprise.

I doubt I will attempt to keep rating 5 much longer, it has been useful to accumulate extra cash (made 19M in about 90mins at a combat zone, due to the all the faction bonuses and 200% rating 5 bonus), but I am reaching the point where I don't really need the extra credits as much. My plan is to get an Anaconda, kit it out a little, attempting to keep the long jump range and go explore a bit. You can't really help in power play and explore at the same time.

This week is also a little harder with my time being split with 1.4 beta.

I love this game and power play us fun, but I am considering to quit powerplay now.

Worked hard to get 1500 points to get the 5 mil

Then all I got was 1000 salary, and now I'm at 900 merits with no time to play this week

Which will soon be like 300 merits

I wish 1500 was 1500 not 3000 that is truly required

I have sympathy for you, but the wages are always, and have always been, paid in arrears. ie. If you look at your rating this week, it will be 4, and you will get 5m at the end of the cycle, no matter what you finish on. So don't quit before you get the money you earned ;-)

Your pay is determined by the your rank at the start of the week and paid at the end of the week.

You started at rank 1 and got paid for rank 1- everything is normal.

Now at the beginning of the new week you are rank 4 and at the end of the week you will be paid for rank 4.

It works the same way in reverse too. If you are rank 4 with 900 merits carried over and do nothing else this week on Thursday you will get 5 mil for rank 4 and go down to rank 3 for next week.

I recommend you grind back up to 1500 to solidify your rank 4 status and insure a steady 5 mil paycheck.

Thanks guys.. Hope that's correct :)

But I'm finding cqc beta too much fun, I may still give up pp - but at least I'm no longer bitter about it :)

Just got discouraged the first time i truly got into power play and things just didn't add up - but it looks like I was mistaken :)

It's because it discards 100% of anything that is 4 weeks old.

So if you got 2000 merits 4 weeks ago, that becomes 1000, then 500, then 250, then it hits a wall and vanishes entirely.

So then on the fourth week, instead of 50% you get 50%-250.

I made 2000 two weeks ago which got me to rank 4. I then made 1700 last week and now I am sat on 1436.

This 50% decay is way to fast I am fed up with the grind and I can earn more money doing trade missions and bounty hunting. Takes all my time to maintain any kind of rank worth a damn at the moment. Going to quit Power Play till this stupid decay is fixed to a more reasonable standard.
