Power play noob, please help!

Hey guys,

So, basically I've been playing elite dangerous now for quite a while on and off.
ive been trying to understand the game more combat wise and get a better ship before getting into any power play situations.

nowim ready, I got my FAS yesterday and I want to get more involved in the game power play wise as I'm finding myself bounty hunting all time, I do some trading on the side too [noob]. I want to make a difference for my power (Zachary Hudson, chose at random as I have no idea when it comes to power play) but yeah, I don't know what I'm doing haha.

also I never seem to come across other cmdr's just NPCs.

anyway if someone could enlighten me on what I should be doing that would be smashing as I'm a bit of a lone wolf due to my Xbox friends not being elite dangerous players :(

sometimes I wish there was a wing finder tool for this game. I'm sure learning would come a lot quicker if you could play along with some experienced players [yesnod]

Never really got into power play honestly.. was turned off by the fact that you rank up by gaining credits and thoes credits degrade over time so it seems like a merry go round.

Would seem alot more fun if there were full scale wars and invasions into enemy systems

It's current state seems like a waste of my time

You earn Merits via killing enemy powerplay ships, such as a Torval's sheild for example or you can find expansion sytems in enemy territory and side against the enemy powerplay faction in faction specific CZs. This is undermining 101. (each Expansion zone kill=10 merits and powerplay specific ships found in systems are 30merits). You can also do the opposite and assist your powers expansion to earn merits. You can also simply deliver powerplay commodities for your faction, which you get a free alocation every 30min and in larger ammounts the higher up the ranking you are (1 ton=1 merit). Powerplay can be fun in a group, by yourself not so much. It's a chore to maintain rank 5, a initial 10,000 merit cap with a 5000 minimum merit grind a week to maintain. The perks at rank 5 are quite nice for the most part. Also lastly you can pledge for 4 weeks to obtain powerplay equiment, 3 weeks of nothing, then before the 4th week begins (every Tuesday) grind up 750 merits to unlock rank 3 for the 4th week, which will unlock your right to purchase the powerplay equipment.

Sounds utterly dull!

Powerplay just sounds like an endless grind. I looked into it and decided I would carry on being a complete mercenary aligned only to myself.

It's complicated, yes.
But it's much better if you have a player group to help you with it and explain it to you.
Recommendation 1) Join Arissa Lavigny-Duval for bounty hunting bonuses. Don't join the corrupt Feds..
Recommendation 2) Come check out Lavigny's Legion: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=209303
