Power Play: Only Peace, no War

The killing of supposedly 'hostile' people on such as scale, just seems immersion breaking.

Since the powers are killing each others members with alarming frequency.....
Why is the galaxy not at war?

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. No news on Galnet, Empire powers are supposed to be allies but shoot each other openly (not only political scheeming), no war declared between Empire and Federation...

I managed to keep a part of the background immersion by imagining those shooters as "extremists" or something. Like the power characters didn't really give orders for open fighting.
But when 95% of the galaxy is shooting at each other, it gets hard to imagin xD

The Major Powers are doing nothing.
With the sustained murdering / killing of their citizens on such as scale it would provoke a military campaign.
The galaxy should be at all out war.

Maybe not a formally declared war, but certainly a cold one getting hotter :)

Big battle fleets - not in this game - the instancing won't allow it, but if you consider how many players must be engaging in undermining ops in opponent Power territory across all the play modes there's a lot of semi-coordinated skirmishes going on.

Perhaps leaders are conservative about "declaring" wars since waging one on a galactic scale, even in ED, must be one hell of a workload...Imagine the paperwork!

It is not a cold war when there is such obvious hostility to every other power.
Everyone is getting actively rewarded for killing / murdering, without question.

I do not think humanity, now or in the future, could kick back and enjoy the rampant bloodshed, not without outright total war.

galactic scale
That's just it, it's not one system here, its the entire human occupied space.
The galaxy is one gigantic murder / killzone, and all the powers that be are just fine and dandy with that.
Let the perpetual bloodshed forever be the norm, no Major Faction will do anything about it.

leaders are conservative
All the leaders promote bloodshed, it's perfectly acceptable to kill other powers members.
With the current PP implementation we should all be at war.
Bring out the battle cruisers and invade with extreme force.
If we are going to kill 'hostiles' on this scale, then Thargoids are the least of humanities problems.

Just one week ago, the galaxy was an (almost) peaceful place. Now things seem to have escalated quickly... This is how I feel:

There should be a viable alternative to conflict for each faction. We should be allowed to pursue peace.
I'm not sure how that would work within the game mechanic. I also get that fighting is fun in a game sense.
I am a little concerned though that the ultimate aim of each faction is to control, destroy, conquer.
I worry that my faction leader will be destroyed.

Yeah, I agree...

PowerPlay turned the political landscape literally on a dime, with nothing happening to even remotely warranting it. And supposedly with Federal and Empire central governments not caring one bit (just think of all the economical, military and political turmoil that would cause).

And from my understanding, Powers officially sanctioning and rewarding unanimous killing of other Power's Ships within their territorial space is a clear and open act of war.
Apart from 100%-contradicting i.e. broad Alliance Policies (which until days ago shared friendly or at least neutral relations with Independents, Empire and Federation), all Powers are actually behaving like Terrorist warmongers doing that.

Just add it onto the existing pile of "doesn't make any sense" and move on....

Yup. I'm already on pile number 5 or 6, but moving on! :)

It's a bit like the fight at the end of Top Gun - superpowers testing each other by sending ships into enemy territory and then denying the battle afterwards...but without the flagrant beach volleyball scenes :)

War is Peace.

:)
The number CMDR's and NPC's that have been killed just for belonging to another power, aka 'hostile', there should be a galaxy wide war.
Not many safe places for anyone who belongs to a Major Faction, which is what the powers belong to.

Why doesn't anyone cease hostility?

At the moment it's not a war. Player supporters of these factions are going around killing other players and NPC's, but we're not the powers armed forces and aren't acting under the orders of the government. Think of it more like the supporters of one political party shooting the supporters of another political party. There's no actual truly open hostility between the powers factions. It's a bit like the cold war in effect.

In a galaxy of trillions of human souls, the number of people actively involved in PowerPlay is tiny (Steam currently lists 5,500 playing). It is a minor conflict on that basis. :)
.
Having said that, as a none participant in PowerPlay, it does feel like there's a weird 'shadow universe' going on, that bares no relation to the rest of the game, or the simulation/background simulation of interaction with the major or minor factions.
