Power Play: Only Peace, no War

Federal security shows up to protect Delaine's thugs and his slave ships... thanks for THAT nicely believable and immersive detail...

Oh, my...

Its not a war , sins we are like PMCs and most of it is covert... that and , only 1 week has pased in PP

We're not PMCs (and to be so would demand we're literally in organisations, when we're only individuals). Many of us hold official rank in one (or both) of the Federal/Imperial militaries and, regardless of that, the factions in question are openly endorsing the orders they're giving out. There's nothing covert about it. We're official representatives and clearly labelled as such, to the extent where you can be destroyed on sight if showing up in an opposing side's territory.

Even if we suppose this theory is true: If, say, Australia paid a private organisation to go and shoot up Chinese oil tankers and/or steal their cargo, don't you think there would be some awfully serious consequences?

And if Obama had just been voted out of office by even most of his own supporters, don't you think he'd be labelled an enemy of the state if he suddenly revealed he had his own private military and was using it to attack US military personnel and vehicles? That's essentially the situation we have going on with Winters/Hudson.

It doesn't matter how long it's been going on for. The point is that it shouldn't really be happening in the first place.

I would just like to point out that no-one actually dies.

Hard to really put your heart into a concerted attack when you know any losses your enemy suffers will be as a token percentage of the value of their ship and no more.

When you think about it, it's hardly surprising there's no open conflict in the Galaxy.

The killing of supposedly 'hostile' people on such as scale, just seems immersion breaking.

Since the powers are killing each others members with alarming frequency.....
Why is the galaxy not at war?

It looks to me like an undeclared war being fought by Privateers. Sort of like the Undeclared War between the US and France in the late 18th century, see link.

NPCs sure seem to, judging by their radio broadcasts.

Which still puts it in the same league as Korean War, Vietnam, Falklands conflict, etcetera... Perhaps war hasn't been officially declared, in the political sense, but that's the mystery, isn't it? There's every reason for it to have done so, yet nobody has. At the very least, Winters should be branded as a terrorist/pirate and outlawed from running in the political system, if not outright exiled. How has she managed to retain Federal citizen status?

To maul a saying from another franchise: "In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only peace."
