Has any thought ever been given to restricting special weapons to the power you are currently pledged to as a way to 'balance' or perhaps just make combat more interesting?
At the moment the whole pledge system just seems like a slow collection system. Pledge for a month, buy 12x whatever weapon you get from current pledge, and repeat. Collect them all. Contrary to most games I've played in the past where allegiance based bonuses were available from the power you are currently pledged to, not the 10 previous powers your flipppy floppy traitor had aligned with. Even if you were limited to collecting only superpower specials, (empire, federation, independent), it would pit certain strengths and weaknesses against each other, instead of just time. Pledging would carry some real consideration, as it could affect your ship loadouts for combat.
If you're not dedicated to playing the BGS, which many people will adamantly declare broke as stuff, there's really not even a role play aspect to consider, power pledge means nothing but what weapon you'd like to collect next.
I don't recall ever seeing this come up in a 'how to fix' thread since I started playing.
I guess I'd like to understand what the reasoning for this was/is? It must have been a consideration, what am I missing?
