Power Play pointless?

Ok, I thought I would look into this as I have been away exploring. It seems to me that all you do it deliver packages from capital to other exploited systems? Please tell me there is more to power play than this.:S Because right now I think it is as about as exciting as watching paint dry.

There is...that's just the first steps in trying to gain more territory...

Other things you can do are related to earning more power for your chosen Power. PvP/Pve pew pew to name one. There are also missions available.

Basically, the game is a RTS board-type game utilizing player actions to determine outcomes (think games like Panzer Blitz or Tobruk). Once a system is prepared, then depending on players choices, it can be fought over for expansion. Once the expansion works, it becomes a Control Center. Control Centers exert influence over all systems within 15Ly.

The limiting factor in this is currency generated by Control Centers..that feed the next cycle of expansion...(preparation is always available in time based alottments...but can be 'unlimited' since they can be bought for credits.

You've been exploring so you should have a real good handle on doing pointless things. Sounds right up your alley. Also, there is a Powerpoint joke in here somewhere.

To stoke the fire Exploration is the only thing with permanent effects in the game (i.e. First discovered tags), everything else is pointless. Arguably this is a virtual game and the only point is to have fun :p

I think what you mean is repetitive things although that could apply to waking up in the morning and breathing... My head hurts :)

To the OP, yes powerplay does not really add any new gameplay features. It just gives good lore, roleplay and background sim development reasons to do the trading/combat etc.

I would argue there is very little BGS influence that occurs because of PP.

Just look at it as a Domination/Battleground thingy.

You make money out of PP and when you are in the mood to shoot some fools you do some PP tasks.

Yeah, I was too busy sorting my headache out from the first bit. I meant background galactic state or something like that. How the universe is at with regards to the 3 main factions etc... Ugh, my words fail me. I think enough forum for today. :p

Why do i have a feeling this is going to be merged sooner or later ?

Yes PP is kind of dull and grindy. If you like farming, then you will feel right at home tho

its not just about delivering packages, you can attack opposing factions as well and they do give you specific missions.

There is more than that. You actually will find a bit more diversity in checking how you can undermine other Power. In the end you can always chose between: 1) delivering things from a controlled system to another system 2) from your HQ to another system and 3) kill enemies at specified locations.
PP is not pointless but I must admit it is redundant. The funny part though is trying to undermine other Powers and expand the territory of your Power.

Since power play is multiplayer focused, it's impossible to not have "grind ". You can't make any singular player too influential as it would make the game unplayable.... But reguardless I LOVE power play, I love it because players actions, successes, and failures are written into the story , makes the game feel alive it makes it interesting.

I have been having fun undermining opposing Powers. Essentially you target their expansion systems, interdict and destroy any of the oppositions brokers/envoys (mostly NPC, but sometimes very busy with other commanders, both allied and opposition).
