Power regulator question

Quick question.
Am I able to do a support mission, install the power regulator and complete the mission and then, take the power regulator and still have completed the mission successfully? Or is that an instant failure?
I know I can abandon the missions but wondered if I can complete them instead and still steal the regulator?

I believe this has been tested and it won't allow you to - you actually have to leave in order to complete the mission (which of course resets the settlement).

If you have a buddy, though, you can complete the mission and wake out, getting that green tick and marking the mission complete while they're still there in a nice powered but unpopulated settlement with that level 3 access that you definitely remembered to let them clone off you, right?
