So Edmund Mahon is a trader-focused Power, pushing expansionism through commerce, commerce, commerce. Literally, in fact: Preparation method: Finance. Expansion method: Finance. Control method: Finance.
But his power reward is a dinky little thermal laser, the Retributor. It's not really worth many peoples' time at all, let alone worth the time for people who would ostensibly ally with Mahon. It just doesn't fit.
My proposal, therefore, as a Power reward for Edmun Mahon (or a suitable substitute power, like Nakato Kaine) is simply what he would be more likely to put resources into developing - thus:
The idea being that a regular static cargo rack, while taking no power and weighing a negligible amount, ends up having some unused space due to needing to be able to access all the bays. The Magnetic Storage (Magstore) Cargo Bays can shift tonnage around and hold cargo in place, perhaps even in midair, without the need for additional struts or access space. This lets a trader, who isn't necessarily doing much with an expensive reactor anyway, spend their power to hold more cargo.
This doesn't have to be limited to a class 6, either.
Admittedly, the Class 1 version would not be very useful, at least if you're using the numbers I'm suggesting. It doesn't have to be any specific Class, it could be all of them or any of them. I chose the 6 as what I thought might be a good midpoint that would encourage traders from as many stages of the game as possible. Even Type 9s have an extra Class 6 internal slot.
But even if every number, even if the name and flavour changes, you understand what I'm suggesting, right? The Alliance deserves a Powerplay Power that rewards what it does best - peaceful transport of cargo. Give something to work towards for all the space truckers among us!
I actually stopped pledging to Mahon because the Retributor wasn't worth being shot at on regular trading trips in non-Alliance space.
