Basically, you know how when a house gets struck by lightning or a appliance short circuits, a power surge occurs and trips a sort of power switch? Maybe something similar should occur in elite. What I was thinking is maybe when multiple high energy weapons like say a rail gun and plasma accelerator or when one of those and a shield cell are used at the same time, because of the massive power draw both these weapons and systems draw, a power surge would occur. A Surge warning would appear accompanied by "Warning, Power Surge detected. Safety protocol engaged" and weapons or systems would be disabled for a few seconds.
