Powerplay 2

HELP!!

I am pledged to Aisling Duval purely because of her anti slavery policy and she's pretty.

I have been playing Elite since the BBC Model B (yes I'm that Old! Braben was a young kid) I've played them all up to today and I am totally confused with Powerplay 2. I don't have lots of time to read reams and reams of explanatory text, I tried! but for me it is too complicated and confusing to say the least.

I have succeeded in the following:-
Scanning Ship Wakes
Rescue Escape Pods
Collect Bounties (13500/288728)

Failing:-
Transport Power Commodities (12) to an Undermining System WHAT IS an undermining system? and where do I obtain Power Commodities of course it has to be an Aisling Duval related location.
Sell Rare goods to Acquisition System (I can get the Rare Goods) but which Acquistion System do I take them to. Once again, it has to be an Aisling Duval related location.

I have earned 35582 Merits in total so far, it shows that I should be a Rank 8 when I have earned 39000, but none of the boxes have been highlighted and the text at the top of the screen shows my Rank as 0

I have a Fleet carrier with 6 fully engineered ships and have 45 Billion Credits, I am an Admiral with the Federation I have all the materials waiting in the hold to buy the and use the new stuff!

Now I am 75 years old a retired IT Sales Consultant and formerly employed as a Basic, Cobol, RPGII and Microsoft Certified Vista Installer (2008) so I class myself as being fairly intelligent, but Powerplay 2 has got me totally stumped, maybe I'm too old! but I do Love this game and I don't want to hang up my Astronaut Suit yet. Although my FS2024 Boing 737 is waiting patiently for me

Any simple help or suggestions (including Leave Elite) will be greatly received. Fly safe commanders, Live Long and Prosper.

Before ranks are applied you have to complete all the first 5 assignments, when you do that you will reach the rank you currently expect.

Power Commodities, use powerplay map mode and find any enemy system close to your power, I think almost all will be considered open for undermining. Gather more than you need and sell just one and see if you get merits, if you do sell them all.

I think systems Unoccupied, Expansion & Contested and Acquisition System, sell the rare goods in those. They had disabled them earlier, I do not know if they have turned them back on yet, give it a go.

undermining is a term used for lowering enemy grasp on the system. it is a system controlled by an enemy power.
power commodities are obtained in controlled systems (also called reinforcing systems - you already have the system, you are only reinforcing your presence in there). you go to a system your power is exploiting and visit power contact at any station. there you can hand in as well as receive power goods.

acquisition refers to systems that arent exploited by anyone. you are acquiring the system by bringing your power there.

you have to complete the first set of weekly quests to be eligible for rank progression. your merits still count, you will get your rank after the quests.

also might be worth noting:
some actions are distance sensitive. you have to complete them in an active distance of a system. you can check this area by selecting the system in gal map, opening the right hand powerplay panel and clicking the button at the bottom of the window with a planet icon. this will show you area of influence you can work with as well as highlight systems that are in that space. and i think power commodities have these conditions in their description.
i think there is a power commodity you can get only from a stronghold. this is a system on galmap with a star icon. (when this icon has outline and a dot next to it, it has a stronghold carrier in it).

i hope these are accurate as i have a terrible migraine rn and cant focus much :D but i hope that will be at least somewaht helpful for now.

ps: the system is complex and as such confusing for pretty much everyone. im mostly just as confused as you and constantly make some mistakes ;)

Thanks, that makes it a little clearer, although I would prefer system names, maybe eventually someone will produce a list eventually.

Thanks, I'm currently in Sosong collecting stuff and scanning wakes and killing ships to get merits, once my merits are massive, I will try to complete the last 3 missions in the list.

Any such list would be out of date when systems change hands the following week.

Organised player groups supporting your Power may well have specific Acquisition / Undermining systems they'd be happy for you to target in any particular week - but they tend to be somewhat secretive about those, so you'd probably have to join one of those groups before they'd tell you.

It's best to learn the map view for these things - the Powerplay map has a lot of information on it. So, for example, looking at Sosong:
HIP 66530 (33101124-105513).png

Aisling Duval's systems show up as light blue triangles. Nearby are some light orange (e.g. Timbalderis) systems of Felicity Winters, some dark green (e.g. Lugh) systems of Edmund Mahon, and some dark orange (e.g. Fong Wang) systems of Yuri Grom. All of these different-coloured triangles are potential Undermining targets for you.

Meanwhile, around these systems are ones with either a single or double white circle. These are potential Acquisition systems - but to work for Aisling Duval, they need to be in range of one of your Power's Fortified or Stronghold systems.

If you look at Bevan's Hope, that's a blue double-triangle, which means it's one of your Fortified systems.
HIP 66530 (33101124-105832).png

Clicking on that system, then the "Toggle Strategic View" button in the bottom right, gets you this view where the systems in range of Bevan's Hope get lines drawn to them. Any of the single/double circle systems there are in range - so for example Kwazahui or Y Velorum or Docleachi would be usable as local Acquisition systems.

Thanks my fellow commander, you have solved my initial problem, I was so confused by the map system, you've made part of it so much easier to understand, thanks again.
