Powerplay Discussion Thread

Will we get 3 new ships in "PowerPlay"?

When Update 1.2 "Wings" was announced in the Newsletters, one little mistake in Newsletter #61 ("...sneaking a look at March's Update 1.2 in our Peek Of The Week. The largest player-piloted Federal ship in Elite: Dangerous: the Core Dynamics Corvette") created quite a stir and made everyone think that Wings would include the Federal Corvette along the Vulture and the FdL as a new, player controllable ship, thus giving us 3 new ships to play with instead of 2. As everyone knows, this turned out not to be the case.

With the upcoming "PowerPlay" update we see a similar, but not identical situation. Three new ships have been announced over the course of the last few weeks and months:

Diamondback (Newsletter #70):

Imperial Courier (Newsletter #65, #66 & #67):

Federal Corvette (Newsletter #61):

Of these three ships, only the Diamondback has been specifically announced for "PowerPlay" (from Newsletter #70):

We'll be showing you more of the Diamondback in coming weeks before its debut in the Powerplay update.

The release time of the other two ships is never specifically mentioned (only that we will see the Courier "soon" ;) )

So, what do you guys think? Will we get all three ships in "PowerPlay" or again just two? Or will they add even more then the three already mentioned ships?

i want to see LOTS more ships. specifically - older versions of current ships.

(it's not like if Ford bring out a new car - all the old versions of it disappear)

they might not be in the shops, but you'd certainly see them flying about. skint pirates attacking you in their Cobra Mk1's

I doubt this is gonna happen. One of the devs recently stated that just designing a single ship so that it holds up to the already high visual standard in ED is a lot of work and takes a lot of time. I don't think they'll waste that time just for ships flying in the background or old versions of ships already in the game.

I imagine it will debated till 1.3 release.
On the day there will be many tears (regardless of how many ships we recieve!) despite FD not promising anything.

Hmm. Putting them together makes a stronger case for the Diamondback being Alliance exclusive seeing as the other two are Empire and Federation...

All the new ships look great in their own way, but currently I'm heading to Empire space to rank up a bit more - the Courier looks too good to pass up.

Any idea what classes the new ships ought to be?

I dont know. Only that I realy want to fly that Imperial Courier. Looks like I need to betray the Feds and join the Empire again.

Sadly, very true. I can't see very many customers leaving though. Or, if they do, it'll be nothing more than the usual hissy fit.
I'm waiting for the Imperial Courier.

I really like the look of the diamondback. If it ends up being the size of the vulture I might try it out. I like small ships.

I'd hope so, 1 Fed, 1 Imp and 1 Alliance (I can dream can't I?<g>)

The Alliance being a sort of cooperation between independent systems (I don't know how to put it better than this) It would seem normal to me that you'd see any sorts of ships there, and not a specific design like you get from the two superpowers.
I don't see Federation / Empire / Alliance as three superpowers on the same level, but rather Federation / Empire (with their dedicated ships) and the Alliance being an alternative to independent systems who want to work together.

The majority of Alliance ships would be normally available ships, absolutely, but I see no reason why they couldn't jointly commission their own exclusive design, much like the Eurofighter of today.

I hope we will get at least two more ships. All in all, remember what they told all beta and alpha backers?

Beta Now includes a lifetime 25% discount on ship insurance PLUS free access to one of 5 new ship designs post game release.

Therefore, I'm still waiting for my free ship! :c And I'm not the only one.

That's a very good point.
I really wish I could dig up some lore about it all (and about a lot of other things in all honesty)

They are an official galactic body after all, not just a bunch of guys who meet every other Friday in their garage and talk about politics. I picture them like NATO - we all contribute and support with our own military but they also have their "own" military force, commanders and officials.

Slightly off-topic: do we know update 1.3 is indeed "Power play"? I have seen many announcements and posts mentioning either one of them, but I can't recall a single statement explicitly saying that 1.3 indeed is Power play.

Well they said the next update is the biggest and called powerplay (1.2 was subtitled wings).
I can't see them calling powerplay 1.29 and doing 1.3 later :p
