Just for giggles I let my friend try Elite and had him read FD's guide to Powerplay. Now he's a well read person, Masters in Mathematics and Bachelors in Language Arts.
His exact words were, "And they expect brand new players to understand this? Even I had to go back and re-read some parts of this and I STILL don't get it."
I honestly think that the system and explanation, in-game and the guides, are too difficulty/lengthy for someone new to Elite. This is why you have so many people unbalancing Powerplay by farming the CZ's for creds, because they can't understand anything else.

This is because whomever wrote the guide is a Dev and not a Customer Support Rep.
Dev Speak is notorious for being hard to understand without a translator.
FD really, really, needs to spend some time updating the in-game Help windows for PP and get someone to re-do their Guide as well.
If I had more mental energy to tackle the project, I would hit up the Wiki and fix the guide so that it makes sense on the first read through and not the 50th.
The simple guide:
Ignore whatever ethos and philosophy a faction is following and simply go to non-owned systems and shoot people in the face for money (or rather, shoot faction agents for points) because all factions are fanatics that wants you to kill the unbelievers.
Yea im bitter and the current system is crap and I have small hopes that FD will EVER make the PP system logical and making sense and fun.
