Newcomer / Intro Powerplay Help Needed

As a noob player I have to say the Powerplay system is completely unintuitive and the "Help" is garbage. Literally the very first assignment is to take some stuff to an Acquisition System and then doesn't explain what an acquisition System is. No where in the guide or help does it explain this. Is it a unowned, expansion, contested, fortified... what? I managed to complete my first tasks by trial and error but I'm still completely lost. I can collect powerplay items but nowhere seems to want them. I have no idea why actions in one system earn me merits while not in others. So is there a complete idiots guide out there I can read?

Despite being a long time player, I had never tried PP2 before and had exactly the same question a week ago.
The in-game help (Powerplay and codex) as well as the wiki couldn't exactly answer the question, either - but somewhere held the hint that this would be a system my power could acquire. I.e., they don't control it, but could achieve control on the next cycle. That leaves two types of systems: contested systems (marked in my power's colour) where another power is in control, and unoccopied systems in range. I think I tried the former and successfully completed my first assignment. Similar for other tasks - but reading the PP2 thread in the DD forum makes ma think I got lucky with my task selection, some tasks are really unsolvable.

Back to your question - the only resource I know about are the threads on the DD forums. Unless you want to join a/the discord for your chosen power, see the Powerplay subforum.

GalMap has a "Powerplay" strategic map, where you can select powers and system states.

Depending on your power, activities granting merits for acquisitions, reinforcements and undermining are different.

I had the same problem as you. The instructions should be better. They should have put them in the filter that you get on the main PP map.

Part of that assumption is probably that ED has its genetics going back to 1984, and the current incarnation was designed in ~2010. At this time, and during this period, there was one (of many) paradigms to have the players participate actively in and around the game, besides only playing it. Therefore, ED's peer-to-peer design - but also the support (however bad or good) of an API that can be used to get in-game info in real time (currently used by, for example, EDDiscovery - or INARA) or these forums.

Or, trying to formulate it differently - ED relies on external sources for players to communicate and also explain the more complicated rules to each other (once someone has figured out
