Powerplay Faction: Archon Delaine PowerPlay piracy

Hi commanders and fellow pirates,

I just wanted to share my recent experience at PowerPlay piracy.

So first of all, you may consider doing this if:

- You want to undermine another Power matching your alignment (e.g.: Archon can pirate undermine Sirius, Aisling can pirate undermine Patreus). 5 merits per ton.

- You want to help your Power delivering fortification packages (eg.: Pirate the Kumo Crew Transport vessels to collect marked slaves and deliver them yourself to Harma). 1 merit per ton, like you get via regular fortification task.

Some numbers (I may update / extend the list later). Below is the max amount of PowerPlay cargo I could observe, per ship type. The amount varies and you may find less or more:

- T9: 50 tons (250 merits)
- T7: 28 tons (140 merits)
- Clipper: 16 tons (80 merits)
- Asp: 14 tons (70 merits)
- Orca: 10 tons (50 merits)
- Cobra: 7 tons (35 merits)
- Hauler: 4 tons (20 merits)

(merits calculated for piracy undermining)

I got on average above 900 merits in less than 1h30m. It can be much more if more T9s spawn.

Here is how I proceed:

- I use a Clipper, which has more than enough firepower, large cargo capacity, very agile if you know how to fly it and can get the hell out from almost anything (because with a class 4 shield and no shield cell bank, you are not looking for a good fight, right?)

- Once you have found and interdicted your prey (I would focus on T7 and T9s whenever possible), target the powerplant and get close (1km - 500m).

- Open fire only when your are facing the top of your prey or its belly. You will wreck the powerplant in no time. Mind not to destroy your prey in the process.

- Once the powerplant is at 0%, the prey will come to a stop. Fire a hatch breaker limpet.

- In the meantime, get your ship slightly below your prey, and orient your cargo hatch the same direction as the one from your prey, and deploy your cargo scoop.

- Once your prey drops cargo, launch another hatch breaker...repeat... After a few seconds the first limpet has attached, fire another one so that it will attach right next after the previous one.

- Fire your collectors in area mode (you may keep the prey targeted, but do not target any canister).

- Your collectors will get the canisters to you in no time since you are very close to them, and keep using hatch breakers until your prey is depleted.

- Then, retract cargo scoop, hardpoints and get the hell out before the security shows up (it did not happen to me once in a Medium security system).

Here is a video illustrating the method, with step by step explanations:

Bottom line:

- Piracy undermining is less efficient than regular undermining if you do the latter in a wing since each wingmate gets the merits (e.g.: 90 merits each for a wing of 3 destroyed, total 360 merits collected if you are in a wing of 4 wingmates.
- For Piracy fortification, don't forget to go collect regularly your allotment (25/50 tons ever 30 minutes at rank 4/5).
- The PowerPlay canisters collected that way are stolen. Mind to avoid (or not) the scan when you go deliver them at the station.
- But more than anything else: IT IS FUN!

EDIT: it seems that the security response scales either with your bounty (which is not so high since you don't destroy ships) or the amount of infractions...which is pretty cool actually. While I could initially collect all 50 tons from T9s, I get now interrupted by Viper/Eagles after collecting 30...then Anacondas show up while I collect the last ones.

Great guide as always Geoffrey.

I was trying the old pirate our own ships for slaves for a laugh the other night but didn't have any gimbles on my asp and couldn't hit the powerplant reliably. Ended up having to scoop while an irrate T9 on 1% hull tried to fight me.

As long as you manage to bring the powerplant to 0%, it's super easy to pirate NPC actually.
Just work on your angle of attack: always shoot from above or under the belly of your prey, at close range. Gimballed pulse and multi-cannon work like a charm.

Then get as close as possible to the canisters, which will be floating in a nice cluster, to minimize the collection time.

I honestly was done in about 3-4 minutes with a T9, and 50 tons in my cargo. :)

Is it marked slaves they drop? Which you return to Harma?

I assume the other "independent" factions share the same Marked Slaves fortification quest we have?
If you are pledge to Archon, you may do that at our controlled systems in between your allotments to fortify these systems.

You can also do this to Sirius / Antal if you wish to undermine then for some reasons.

Or, to our players who defected to an imperial/federal Power, in order to oppose our bad expansions, they can undermine imperial/federal Powers that way.

Yes, Archon here. I'd rather pirate enemy factions then our own... that see,s kind of anti-immersion/rpish. Unfortunately it seems undermining Patreus is priority right now though.

Outfitted a clipper for this - regular fast tracked fort runs were burning me out, and costing me money that I need to save for a Cutter/Corvette eventually. :) Hope this is fun when I don't feel like pure undermining.

It is fun as long as T9 and T7s show up regularly...like regular undermining is fun when wings show up on the scanner.

But at least it is not a silly stupid turkey shoot, and the bigger the fish, the bigger the reward!
It is even funnier when the security shows up while the canisters are still raining from the T9, you blast them away then come back to collect the rest...then the reinforcements arrive and...two Anacondas start to open fire while you scoop the last 5 canisters before charging your FSD and get the hell out! :)

Having a heck of a time getting the PP down before blowing up the hull.
It is super easy from my side with a Clipper 2 large gimballed pulse + 2 MC:
- Get close (around 500m works best)
- Then either wait for your target to curve...
- or fly at max speed parallel to him, 4 pips to ENG, then turn (not even need for FA off)
- when you see the top or belly (not the sides) of your prey, open fire

The bigger the prey, the easier. Only T6s and Cobras (which do not haul much canisters anyway) are difficult sometimes to me. All the other ship have left between 30 and 70% hull after the powerplant goes down.

BTW, I have updated my config / technique:
- Went to a 3A hatch breaker. Can launch multiple, and shorter hack time.
- As soon as one limpet attaches, count 2-3 seconds, then fire another one. This way, the next limpet will attach right after the first one has triggered the siphon, and the canisters will rain almost continuously!
- Also added a 1B collector for a total of 5 limpets working at a time. Rank B for max range.
- Position your ship at the same level as your prey, and right next close to it, since the collectors dive first then come back to your ship, and will catch on the way the canisters.

Last but not least, the amount of canisters varies with the NPC rank. I got over 30 canisters for an Elite Clipper, but around 10 for a master. I have not had any Elite T9 yet.

I am now getting about 1000 merits per hour.

I may not be getting close enough. Did on the first few ships, but noticed I had issues on T6s. Never saw a T7 or T9 - but I didn't do it for long.

Distance was my issue, closed in and was able to get them easily. Never could get a T7 or T9 to spawn though!

Never? Mmh...that'ss frustrating...
Try another system. The spawns vary from a system to another. As per my observation, the max/fastest amount of spawns I get is in systems with multiple stars and/or stations next to each others.
