PowerPlay question: what "canceled" means vs. "under threat"?

Just curious. In controlled systems that haven't reach their fortification trigger, if the opposition is higher, the system is considered "under threat". When the fortification trigger is reached but the opposition is over its trigger, the system is marked as "cancelled", even though the fortification might be higher.

So, what does that mean exactly? If a system is cancelled, can you still take over the opposition and avoid it being undermined?

Both targets are unrelated to one another. Cancelled just means both Fortification and Undermining reached their target.

So, you can still reverse the tide and avoid a system getting in turmoil if you end up with more fortification than opposition? I guess "cancelled" is a bad choice of word...

Once both sides are at 100% there's nothing else that can be done. It is cancelled but you don't get the full benefits of a none undermined system.

As a non-powerpants player; reading this, I am akin to a hamster reading Marx. What a complete waste of time all this complexity has been..

Essentially:

If the Fortification Trigger is reached and the Undermine Trigger is not, the system fortifies.
If the Undermine Trigger is reached and the Fortification Trigger is not, the system is undermined.
If both Triggers are reached, nothing changes.
If neither Trigger is reached, nothing changes.

If you are a non Power Play player how can you possibly call it a waste of time. What negativity. Please take the time to comment on something you care about and understand, as opposed to something you don't. Spare us please :)

But I have read hundreds of posts like this - with even the devs trying to work out what is going on in this melange - no-one actually understands powerpants.

And I do care about it - or rather I care about the core game enough to know that PP simply doesn't fit - but I'll will defer. +1
