Powerplay Question: What happens if you DON'T pledge allegiance to any of the powers?

I'm a lone wolf in Elite Dangerous, and I have no interest in Powerplay (sorry Frontier, I know you worked hard on this).
What are the consequences if I don't pledge allegiance to any of the powers and try my best to ignore this is even in the game?
Am I going to get attacked? If so, by who? Is what I am able to do in the game going to be restricted in any way? If so, how?
How will not taking part in Powerplay negatively affect me? Or positively affect me?

Apologies if this has been discussed somewhere, there's a lot of Powerplay threads, and I can't keep up with it all (yeah, I'm not perfect).

As far as I'm aware you don't get the shiny things and bonuses from being in that faction. Life will carry on as before just with power shifts in star systems.

You don't get interdicted a gazillion times by NPCs from the opposing factions. For now, stay undeclared. You can still reap the benefits of each faction in the exploited systems (like trading imperial slaves, which seem to be the flavor of the week).

You're free to trade/bounty hunt/doing CGs anywhere without being hostile. And you're gonna make more profits.
At this point PP is not for me, I play maybe 10-12 hours a week, 1-3 ratings are a joke.

Please note: I didn't intend for this to become a PowerPlay bashing thread ... so please don't. (I'm not saying anyone has, just trying to stop that before it starts)
Frontier worked very hard on this and it does look all shiny and stuff, but the question is "What if I don't pledge to any of the powers?" and not about bashing the new update.

If I trade / bounty hunt or collect resources inside a power's controlled area of space, but without engaging directly with the power (preparation, expansion or control) ... do I still influence the power indirectly, by increasing economic activity? Does trading inside a power region, add CC to the power?

There are no consequences at all. Just carry on as you where. You could never look at the PP overlay on the map and almost oblivious to there presence at all.

The 10 powers, currently, have no real effect on the galaxy at all outside of the background plot, (So you could argue that players can now effect the background plot in the long term).

You still get to enjoy any of the effects the various Powers have on their controlled or exploited systems.
Otherwise you enjoy freedom of travel anywhere in Human Space, to do as you please any activity you please, as before.

Do not need to be Pledged to participate in any of the CG run by the powers either

At the moment freedom of movement is currently the best advantage to not being involved with a power.

Although I get the feeling things will change as PP becomes more developed, its Frontiers flag ship mechanic so I can't help but feel all other aspects of the game will be taking a firm back seat for quite some time.

No, sadly this is not the case. Only powerplay-specific activities count.

I played in beta aligned to Arissa and found with only a few hours a week to 'invest' my actions had almost zero impact.

I'm playing unaligned in the main game. I don't think PowerPlay will have much impact if you remain unaligned, though some trade routes will be affected by changing prices as they are subsumed or freed from various powers.

Unaligned wins for me, I've little interest in 'Risk in Space'. I'm planning a stint out in the void shortly, so the tiny events of PowerPlay (and zoom out the galaxy map in PowerPlay mode to see what I mean by 'tiny') will be of no consequence.

I'm lone-wolf too.

Cheers,

Drew.

[cracks knuckles on typing fingers] an like, man, wot mai dey b, like innit man?
Yeah I thought "whom" when I typed it, then thought "nah, who is just as correct."

Thank you everyone who has answered so far, I can just go about doing what I want and not get involved in the powerplay thing. I appreciate Frontier allowing people who don't want to get involved to not be negatively affected, they must have asked the same question I did during early development of it.
