Powerplay Powerplay question

So currently I'm aligned with Zachary Hudson, just because he happened to be in control of the zone I was more or less playing in. I figured they were all pretty much the same, but I see that they each have a unique item you can get. I'm not too crazy about his. I don't like flak cannons and his doesn't sound all that great. So I wanna ask, besides the item and the passive effect on zones they control, is there any other difference between the different leaders? I like the sound of that prismatic shield. Is it worth making the trip and changing my allegiance?

I see lots of posts about making credits and Hudson seems to be mentioned a lot. What's that all about?

Yes there are some differences. Look at the Ratings you achieve with each of them.

For example if you earn Rating 5 with Hudson you collect double bounties in Hudson exploited territory plus 50 million salary each week. That's a huge bump up in pay if your main source of income is bounty hunting.

Hudson and ALD give the best bounty hunting bonus. At level 5, they're both 100% and the 50 million is for any level 5 CMDR. In Hudson and ALD, you get a bounty hunting bonus starting at level 2, which only needs 100 merits to achieve. That's a lot easier than the 10,000 merits for level 5.

Hudson has the frag cannons and ALD has the Imperial Hammer, which is a Rail Gun that shoots 3 times instead of 1. More bullets = more chances to hit the subsystem or hull.

Aisling is the one for the Prismatic Shields and Torval is good for her trading bonus. You can check the wiki for more info.

A MottiKhan already said Hudson has a handy bounty hunting income bonus if you are inside Hudson space & at least rank 2. Getting to rank 5 is a good way to get rich fast actually. If you are interested in specific modules, some people go module shopping for a while by pledging a month to each power they want to have faction specific modules from.

If you are interested in player interactions you should consider also considering the community of the respective power you want to join. Here is a list of all reddit PowerPlay communities. I think all of them have their own Teamspeak servers (or equivalent) too. I'm with Hudson too, so obviously I'd say we Feds are the best choice ;)

Pledging allegiance just because you are in that power's territory isn't a good thing. You have to decide on your own. If you don't role play, they differ mainly with their way how to earn merits. You should join the power that fits your style.

I was aligned with an imperial briefly at first but it made doing missions in my space tough cause I was hostile everywhere and kept getting interdicted. That's why I changed to Hudson.

But I'll give each one a read on the wiki and find someone that suits me best.

Also be sure to check out the sub-reddit for each Power you are interested in. There is always a weekly strategy plan posted that is updated daily (at least for Torval ;)) This information is key to helping your Power instead of hindering it.
Also, just my opinion, but Power Play is not really for newer pilots. It's best to have a good combat ship, a good trading ship and a decent stack of credits before you begin. And you will be considered Hostile in any other Powers' systems, but that doesn't matter much unless you see opponent CMDR's. They will have free reign to open fire. If you already have all of this, then by all means, give it a try!

You should choose the one that supports your activities if you want to make extra credits. ZH gives bonuses for bounty hunters. Others give bonuses for trading, pirating, etc.

Alternatively, you can just join the one you like the look of and go and fight for their cause.

I just got my Asp explorer and I have a vulture. Both are running b and c mods. So I think I'll hold off on power play for a little while yet. I'll do some exploring first. Thanks guys!

If you're already aligned with Hudson, that Vulture can make you a lot of money. I'm not sure what Hudson's bonus is right now, but you'll get at least 20% at level 2. It goes up when Hudson climbs the ranks and if I recall correctly, it's 50% when he's ranked #1. ALD has a similar structure, except her bonus extends to other systems.

I was wondering what that ranking was for. Everything I read just shows the bonus u get for your rank, and the bonuses they provide controlled/exploited systems. I didn't realize their ranking did anything. OK, is there someplace that summaries all this because the wiki seems very short on the details.

Best way to get that info is reading through the "Pledge" part of a power ingame. There are things that are completely the same for all powers like increase of credit bonus, preparation nominations & free PowerPlay commodities.

At rank 2 you can find the first special bonus for each power (i.e. the bounty hunting bonus for Hudson), rank 3 the special module and rank 5 the increased special bonus (i.e. the 100% bounty hunting bonus for Hudson).

Yeah, it can be confusing at first. You'll need to earn 100 merits before Thursday morning to reach level 2. There's a rounding error that might pop up, so it's advised to get at least 101 merits. You'll get the bonus on Thursday morning, but you won't get the extra pay until the following Thursday. If Hudson is ranked #1, you'll get an extra 50% added to your bounty hunting in his controlled systems. I think it extends to his exploited systems too, but don't quote me on that.

The big money is at level 5. You get a 100% bounty hunting bonus, but a little bug in the calculations gives you 100% when you earn the bounty, then it doubles again when you claim it. That makes a double-double or 400% in total. The same thing is happening with ALD, but both bugs are known and will likely be squashed before long.
