Powerplay questions

So I've read up on Powerplay, so I know HOW it works...but I'm left with a couple of questions. Now I'm on the Xbox One, so it may be a little while before we're actually playing under those conditions....but I'd like to be forearmed with a bit of knowledge when it comes.

First off, there are 10 "Powers." Other than the stories behind them, is there any real difference between them? I know that Aisling Duvall is against slavery...but is that all that really separates her from the rest of the Powers?

I was started off in the Eravate-Kremainn-Portriti network of systems. This is controlled by Zachary Hudson, at least for now. So I can pretty much guess that the surrounding areas are also controlled by him. Is there some place I can go to view a layout of the current galactic state of control by the Powers?

I know you gain Merits by taking part in the Powerplay events. But what are the Merits used for? Purchasing equipment from the Power you are aligned to that are available from the event?

I had seen a screen the other day concerning the Powerplay, even though it was on the Xbox One and apparently isn't fully implemented yet, asking me to align myself with a Power. I didn't align myself with anyone because I didn't know enough about it yet. Now I can't ind this screen again. I am assuming this is because this round of the event is over. How long are the breaks between the Poweplay events? (I know the events a week long.)

I think that's it for now.

I'll try to answer in order:

- there are 4 Empire powers, 2 Federation, 1 Alliance, and 3 Independants. They all have different bonuses that you get by pledging to them, like LYR having ship and outfitting discounts as he is a corporate based Independant.

- yes, go to the map and in the View tab (the third tab, think it's View), click on Powerplay to see who controls which areas.

- Cadoc does a nice little weekly cycle review, his latest one is here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=167146

- Merits are used to rank up next week. Higher ranks have better benefits.

- Powerplay is ongoing, but each cycle lasts a week after which fortification, expansion etc is reset and powers gain control of new systems, lose some, etc.
