With the second group of Weekly Tasks given out, and seeing all the problems people are having with it (me included, have two impossible to complete), it would be better to scrap the auto-generated Weekly Tasks in favor of straight out having the powers give out Power-specific Missions (or have the Tasks being selected by the player at places convenient for their pledged Power), with extra payout of merits (and hopefully, rebalance merit gain while at it).
It's a good idea to have auto-generated and random tasks, because that can point a player into discovering fun in an activity that they disregarded.
But that also kills a bit of role-play, for players that want to focus on a single thing, or never kill, for example. If that wasn't enough, we are also getting the broken tasks now, and since we have no control over them, we can't do a thing about it.
With missions, if a mission is broken (scanning nav beacon didn't give a POI, you got asked to scan the same megaship again, etc), you can scrap it and go on. Sure, the reputation loss is a bit of a pain, but an easy one to deal with.
With Tasks, we have no such option, but we should. Have player choose what they want the task to pay out, like with missions, but instead of reputation and influence, we can choose extra merits.
