Powerplay - the Map. Deconstruction

As an avid fan of the background simulation and an AEDC member that likes to do reconnaissance, intelligence work and looking at maps, I thirst for every piece of information about powerplay.
So the map is the first detailed information about what and where Powerplay will actually happen.
Lets see just how much information we can get out of it:

There are 9 powers, and this is roughly half of the inhabited space.

Distances:
Hip 18714 (deep empire) - Turmatis (Indendent / Federation towards Polaris): 250 ly (lower right to upper left)
Zao Hi (Federation / Indie southside, frontier)- Pandhis (Fed / Indie suburbs): 250 ly (lower left to upper right)
Apalok (Federation / Imperial Border) - Zosi (Alliance territory, close to frontier upwards): 210 ly (middle down to middle up)
Apalok - Wolf 335 (Alliance / Federation Border): 175 ly (middle down to middle up)
Kistha (central Federal / Imperial Border) - HIP 14181 (Indie / Federal Frontier towards Polaris): 175 ly (right to left)

The 9 recognizable powers are
- yellow (Anapoya - Ind, Pandhis - Fed, Erivit - Fed, Morixa - Fed) - a Fed power
- yellow green (Zosi - All, BD+66 696 - Ind, Turmatis - Ind, Benanekpeno - Ind, Bango - Ind) - probably an Independent power
- pale green (Makah - Fed, Kalveti - Fed, HR 1354 - Fed, Ross 597 - Fed) - another Fed power
- white (Zao Hi - Fed, Nurundere - Fed) not enough information, probably another Fed power
- light blue (Lutni - Emp) not enough information, but due to location probably an Empire power
- deep blue (Knumadi - Emp, AB Pictoris - Emp, 50 Upsilon-1 Eridani - Fed) - deep inside the Empire, probably one of those
- purple (Beniena - Emp) not enough information, probably another Empire power
- grey (Malean - Fed) not enough information. Located in the midst of Federation space. Might be Indie, though
- vermillion (DP Carmelopardalis - Fed, V848 Monocerotis - Fed, GCRV 2743 - Fed, Kanus - Fed) - definitely a Fed power. It even has the color. Might be President Halsey, Federal Navy. Very spread out, though, easily attackable from all sides.

I don't think these are 2 kinds of red.

So - in case that is a preview - we have
3 Feds
2 Empire
0 Alliance
1 Indie
3 with little information

Location:
By adjusting the map so that the names of Sol, Aldebaran, Achenar and NGC 6357 match, we see that this is a view from the rimside towards the galactic center.
Sol seems to be some distance (maybe 100 ly) towards the galactic center, and Achenar seems to be right in the middle of the blue/light blue/purple power conglomerate.
Alioth is in the upper left behind the yellow green power. Lave is quite a bit centrewards from the yellow power.

So there is both quite a bit towards the center, upwards, and downwards into the deep Empire that is not shown. I think it is safe to assume this is the center of Powerplay.

So what do you think?

Who is Patreus? Who is Princess Arissa Lavigny-Duval, or Aisling Duval? Who is Senator Torval? President Halsey? Shadow President Hudson?

Who might be the other powers?

Really? Noone?

So... I counted the dark blue dots. I arrived at 39.

Since this is very close to the addition of Patreus' number of exploited systems + number of controlled systems from Newsletter 72, i'd say dark blue is Patreus.

I think you're probably correct in assuming that Patreus will break from the Empire with the coming powerplay, his Spat with the Empress and the recent "younger relatives" attacking the Federation seem to hint that he's not as much of a team player as he lets on.

Also the split in Federation between Hudson and Halsey is likely, especially after today's GalNet Article.
I think that a majority of these will be new players, and we'll get new background/story to fill in the leaders as they rise to power. Patreus leaving the Empire and Hudson shattering the Federation will cause a major shift in control, and likely leave a lot of civil unrest. That kind of unrest is easily swooped up by the first guy to come along with the biggest gun/best idea to Save/Protect/Bring order to the people. It will be interesting to see how these factions play out, and I genuinely hope that there is a distinctive difference in the factions. I would LOVE to "feel" the difference when I fly into a system owned by a different Faction. (Militant factions, higher security, fewer pirates, more Checkpoints/Better Police interdictions (could lead to higher payouts on the Black market for smugglers) . Economic faction, More Traders, more "Seeking Goods", Benefits for repeat trading, Pirate/anarchy Safe haven for Wanted Criminals, rare/exotic goods to be smuggled into other systems, General lawlessness, Strong NPC interdictions/pirates [its really about time they got buffed anyway] etc) Whatever it is, I would want it to be tangible enough to plan my routes based on what I'm doing, or trying to avoid.

-I'm carrying a boatload of smuggled/illegal goods, I'm going to avoid the Religious Zealot/militant systems planning my route, because If I don't they'll do everything they can to destroy the goods.
-I'm looking for an awesome Trade route, These guys will protect me and provide benefits for my continued business.
-I need to upgrade the weapons on my ship, Time to find a high tech system owned by a militant faction... but I should scrub my fines/bounties first.

-I want to Travel 150 LY to a CG going on, but there is one stop along my route that I'm "at war" with. If I stop there I may get interdicted and owned by a handful of the SAS. (System Authority Ships) Maybe I should try to find a way around it.

Just thoughts, Didn't mean to post off topic OP.

I'm also not willing to discount the possibility that there will be an entirely new (I'm not going to say Thargoids, but...) power to enter the field.

I am not sure that Frontier uses the exact same galaxy as we do for their development.
Probably the same simulation, but a different seed for the procedural creation.

At least I think it is unlikely they copied the current galaxy over first. and if I am right the actual map for the 'live' galaxy will be different

The red faction is the biggest. This will probably be the Federal Navy led by whoever is President. Patreus' was shown in screenshots as being 2nd ranked in the galaxy. Makes sense that the Feds are 1st then.

Because I dont think the number 1 and 2 powers will come from the same major faction. And it is not likely to be the Alliance.

So 2/9 identified.
Is anyone seeing any planets closely associated to community goals or stories relating to certain characters?

Alliance must be represented in Powerplay, because they're the third major faction. All leaders will have profiles like Patreus and we should have background info about each factions.

The Alliance could use more love. So give them some! I prefer my drunk Barons though. They know how to party. ;)

Lady Kahina Tijani Loren of Prism is probably going to be a Power.Hinted but not confirmed though.

I see four Imperial Powers so far, and based on the locations of previous community events, my speculation would be that:
Red: Torval
Blue: Patreus
Turquoise: Arissa
Pink: Kahina

Aisling was confirmed to be a power in one of the previous newsletters, but I just can't make sense of her; I thought lore wise, that she was going with Patreous, and I don't think Drew started the rumors and the political leaning profile of Lady Kahina if she wasn't gonna be a power. Maybe if she is not a power, she would go allied with Arissa because they are not too far apart in terms of politics. Then in that case:

Red: Torval
Blue: Patreus
Turquoise: Aisling
Pink: Arissa + Kahina

The main Alliance systems arent on the map. Alioth is either in the green area (which might fight colorwise) or further upwards. Lave is about 80 - 120 ly further corewards from the yellow area.

So it doesnt mean anything that supposedly no Alliance power is shown.

I too am very interested in powerplay, the political background to the universe is what fires my imagination much more than pew pew .

I have put as much as I can find about the various characters into the Encyclopaedia Galactica

You may find something usefull in there. If you find anything missing please add it.
