PowerPlaya

I was just wondering what everyone's general feeling of PowerPlay was? I've viewed a few tutorials and read up on it but it's not doing much for me. Am i missing out by not participating?

Opinions will vary on here...but having tried it twice I found it akin to watching a lot of paint dry. Did nowt for me at all.

You can join a poweplay faction to get some sweet weapons, bounty bonuses, and even an increased shield generator. You have to reach rank 3 to get this stuff so its something to aim for if you want it.

There are a (very) few weapons/modules worth getting. I used it as a money making mechanic for a while. Overall, I felt zero attachment to my pledged power and it made the game feel even more "grindy."

I found that most folks doing powerplay were simply there for the merits and/or the fancy schmancy weapons/shields. They'd fortify the closest system to the HQ to 3000% rather than fly a couple of jumps to rescue one in turmoil... not for me.

Thanks for your responses, i'm glad it's not just me. I play ED to progress, explore and have fun. I'm not a completest and don't care if i miss out on certain shields and weapons, especially if it takes months to get them.

All lore aside, power play at ranks 2, 3, and 5 have passive bonuses you can have depending on which faction you joined, and them being in galactic standings 1-3 will give a bonus to each of those bonuses, all factions at rank 2 have a small bonus which is also the one that gets boosted depending on their standing, at rank 3 and having 4 weeks time pledged will unlock their exclusive gear, usually having a side effect that you cannot get anywhere else in the game at the price of some other draw backs such as the imperial hammer, it's the only burst fire rail gun in the game but has +50% heat generation and deals more damage ONLY if all 3 shots hit, in my opinion it has more consistent damage versus the hit or miss single fire rail. At rank 5 you get 50m credits a week and have a huge passive bonus such as doubling all your bounties, double exploration rank, and so on.

It's a long read but hope this helps.

When I was playing a lot, I enjoyed Powerplay. I went whole hog, followed the Redits, downloaded the spreadsheets. In a sense, it was nice having a "goal" to accomplish, even if my contribution was just a drop in the bucket. But, at least I felt the sense of being a part of something greater.

I feel like you can get something out of powerplay if you can see how you doing your small part, along with all the other people doing their small part, is actually adding up to something consequential. It's nothing big or flashy, and it often goes unrecognized (though a cool 50 million is nice), but at least you're "playing with purpose".

These days, I don't play much, so I've hopped out of Powerplay. The small rewards just weren't worth the hassle. It is nice, since I did pay such close attention to it in the past, is that I notice it happening in the background much more now. Sort of how if you were ever a painter, you'll start looking at the walls a little closer when you enter a room, just to see what sort of varnish people chose. Nothing that really impacts you, but it makes you more aware of the little details that surround you.

Powerplay has potential. I feel it isnt flushed out well enough. Aside from the modules there is no reason to care about your particular power

That being said

For a noob, if you have a friend or 2 help, 1500 merits is cake. No rank or allegience locked missions. Just 5 million. Cash money

For a seasoned player with time, 50 million a week is attainable and maintainable for several weeks in a row before merit decay becomes an issue.

I took a noob in a viper to an A class conda in 5 weeks. So it definitely has its merits (bad pun intended) I just wish there was more of a reason to be invested with a power

I did power play for 2 minuets , joined Hudson got the achievement unlock ditched power play. Those 2 minutes were all exciting! Tbh powerplay is for the guys with time to kill which is fair enough but it's not really aimed at the casual gamer or one with limited time to input into ED
