PP, ED's Jar Jar binks?

Powerplay is a very good thing.
it lets you join in on the politics and do things such as being a corsair for your faction. and it is 100% optional , unlike jarjar...

Jar Jar was not optional. He tainted the whole movie.

Unless Powerplay has some killer changes and improvements in the future I predict it will be removed. It feels like one of those pay to play phone games but they haven't implemented the pay bit yet.

1000 Merits for £9.99

Good God I hope not (I do expect it though) my wife's Farmville notifications in the middle of the night are bad enough already.....

Jar Jar was optional, I walked out of the movie :D
You walked out? Jarjar ruined the movie but the movie was still canon , and lore dictates all.

powerplay is a very good system and I love it , and hope to see it grow and get more and more detailed and complex

I'm sure you will enjoy it then.

For myself, "Mesa so happy for PP to go away"

The best analogy of PP, IMO, is that it is ED's Jar Jar Binks.

"Mesa no like hipster space risk mesa think." :p

Ha ha!

Humour aside your Jar Jar analogy is quite appropriate. It does feel a bit like a 'Fast and Furious' style body kit theme for my mum's Volvo. I dunno perhaps FD were trying to appeal to a younger audience.

Maybe its because I'm old and played the original on a BBC Micro (yeah, I was the posh kid) but ED feels like a very grown up game to me and Powerplay seems out of sync with the overall mood and dynamic of the game. The PP leaders seem very one dimensional and cartoon like.
My kids saw the GalNet portraits and said "wow that looks sick" but if they played ED it would not hold their attention for long.

I'm fairly ambivalent towards PP it does little to enthuse but then it doesn't bother me either. So I guess it's there for those that want it.

Ok... if you hate PP , thats fine... if you dont comit to a faction it changes is allmost nothing for you...

Yeah Privata makes a fair point and to be fair to FD as well; if you don't like PP it's easily ignored.

I signed up for that from the Empire. I've done nothing more beyond that and she still gives me a grand each week. Which is nice.

Ewoks are still worst than my opinion

Quite.

Except the Ewoks bit. I distinctly remember walking out of Rochester multiplex with 4 mates. Silence. Shocked silence, and a slight taste of sick in my throat.

If a film ever needed audience interaction then this was the one where you should have been able to have voted for "it" to be unexpectedly (and excruciatingly slowly) run over by a sand crawler. Main characters shrug and continue on their way.

Oh, Anakin....also annoying, but how actors fall....

I perceive Jar Jar as a negative and sadly unavoidable addition to Star Wars.

Powerplay on the other hand is a great and needed addition to Elite... and you can ignore it if you want.
There is room for improvement I agree, but I would not want to play Elite without PP anymore.

PP is great at introducing a cool expandable political system that gives an identity to otherwise faceless star systems and perhaps even more importantly it gives a framework for direct and indirect player interaction.
As Obsidian Ant said: PP adds quite a bit of new dimensions to the game; it brings the Galaxy to life, it puts characters in context to the galaxy, it gives players who want that direction in what to do.

For me PP has completely changed the way I perceive the Elite universe. It has given it more meaning and made it more dynamic, whether I join a faction or not, whether I partake in PP or not.

Fair play mate. Then I guess PP has to be considered a success. It's breathed new life into the game for you, who's embraced it. I've largely ignored it and it has not reduced my enjoyment of the game in the slightest.
Well done FD :)

Seems like a perfect content add. It changes little for many. Adds content for some. Offers rewards to players and nonplayers. I don't see any issues with the new Overlords.

Jar Jar ruined the SW storyline for me. It was an obvious technology add...for the sake of 'because we can' rather than 'it was a neccessary add for the story'.

Yes, I think FD was much smarter with PP than many give them credit for. The way they implemented PowerPlay as an extra layer is laudable.
I do consider PP a success and a great foundation to build upon. I do believe PP needs some tinkering, tweaking etc. FD is not done with PP. You will see.

Just as in real life you can ignore the political layer completely, but nevertheless it is there to give a necessary flavor to the galaxy in the background.

Not really sure what PP adds, I am doing the same things but in a slightly different way- but it is great!! Oh, and I make more money doing it, and I get a shiny new gun in a couple of weeks.

In this thread of super strained analogies; if Jar Jar is PP in ED, then the Ewoks are the Newtonian flight mechanics in Frontier E2.

They were there years before, and were infinitely more twattish.

YMMV
