PP ship discount (non-pledged) - factors to consider

New player so just thinking out loud here more than being any kind of expert. Read about being unpledged and still being able to get the passive 15% ship / modules discount with Li Yong-Rui.

From what I read though, the 15% is applied as a discount to both what you buy AND what you sell. (if this is not correct, please say so - other posts I've read say this but I haven't yet personally gone to test this - as a new player I'm still building up cash in the surrounding systems of the noobie zone we start in)

Consideration #1 - if all I do is go fly to this pledge power headquarters (Lembeva?) which in posts says has decent pick of stuff to buy, and just buy a ship only, then it seems is a no-brainer - you get 15% off the new ship, and you can store old ship there.

Consideration #2 - but what about old ship if you want to trade it in? if 15% off goes both way, on buying and selling, then selling any of your items there would not make optimal sense, so you'd need to sell all that you can before you got there (other than the essential FSD drive, power plant, etc - which I suppose you could install downgraded versions of first so you lose the least in exchange)

Consideration #3 - the strip off before you take old ship to Lembeva works for components, but not the ship. You'd still take a 15% additional loss on selling your old ship, which in gross terms still works out as advantage if you're buying up to a more expensive ship (e.g. you lose 15% on possible resale value of old ship, but you gain 15% discount on a much more expensive ship) - but what if you wanted to avoid even this?

I was thinking of some bizarre ferry scenarios - like strip off my old ship of the components I can at full resale price, then sell it for full resale price ala normal convention for selling old ship. Then buy the cheapest temp ship that will get me to the PP discount world - like say a sidewinder with just enough FSD to get me there. Then once there, sell the temp sidewinder, buy your new ship + components, and fly the new ship out.

Kinda rambling here, but wondering what everyone's thoughts are on how to best take advantage of the passive 15% ship/modules discount, but still avoid taking your own loss on resale of your ship / modules

it's more easy (and disappointing somehow :-D ): the price you paid for a module and/or ship is remenbered, and you get - selling it - what you paid, wherever you bought it, with a discount or not.

discount come handy on a longer run through reduced insurance costs.

oh darn, ok - but at least that makes the decision lot easier. good to know my resale is always whatever I bought it at.

I'm nowhere near having the cash yet to buy a big ship but when I do, I guess I'll head over to one of this power's discount ports and buy a ship there. 15% off something small like a hauler doesn't seem worth it to even bother, but a type 7 that I want is like 15.7M.

Just the ship discount alone is over 2.2M saved.
