Ships Pre-built ship redeployment; what about the modules

Apologies if this has been asked before - I wasn't able to find it if it has been.

Prebuilt ships, those purchased with arx, can be redeployed anywhere - I haven't tried it so not sure how it is done. I guess the question is: how are the modules handled - i.e. I have the Cobra MkV and I've upgraded/changed a number of modules - the hard points for example. If I "redeploy" the Cobra, do those new modules tag along, get left behind at the station from where the Cobra was prior to redeployment, get sold, or get "lost"? Likewise, for engineering on original pre-built modules: tag along, get lost, etc?

Obviously, if pre-built ships can re-deployed anywhere, complete with the mods, that would be one heck of a convenience.

Thanks.

That is a confusing answer, because the word redeploy actually is displayed/used in the re-buy process, which retains module changes. Starting here:

I have the Cobra MkV and I've upgraded/changed a number of modules - the hard points for example. If I "redeploy" the Cobra, do those new modules tag along, get left behind at the station from where the Cobra was prior to redeployment, get sold, or get "lost"?

If the pre-built, modified ship is destroyed and you use the normal re-buy process, it will retain all changes—and usefully, the redeployment cost for the ship and any unmodified modules is zero.

If you mean deploy again in the context of using a Shipyard to deploy a pre-built ship, the answer follows from having to sell the existing deployed ship first before deploying it again. That is to say, you choose whether to sell it before recovering any modules you want; obviously you would then need to transfer or transport those modules to the new deployment port.

Likewise, for engineering on original pre-built modules: tag along, get lost, etc?

Engineering on pre-built modules will be retained after re-buy, although cannot be retained at all if you sell the ship; the latter is because pre-built modules cannot be moved into your storage, only sold for zero credits. Indeed it is a bit of a calculated investment to engineer a pre-built module! If you want to retain such an engineered module, you need to start with replacing it for a purchased module then apply engineering to that instead.

I think prebuilds are more useful if you leave them in “undeployed” mode. That way they’re always available at any shipyard facility; it’s like having a mini-fleet deployable anywhere for anything you want to do. When you find yourself away from your home port, you can transfer your “main” ship and immediately start playing while it’s in transit.

Sent to a remote jail? Deploy an explorer dbx.
Need to run some missions for rep in a remote system? Deploy a Beluga.
Waiting for your AX ship to transit to the Pleiades? Instantly deploy a zero-rebuy ax krait.
Zero rebuy combat ships if you want to fight immediately.

Since there are prebuilds for most playstyles, you can easily dip into whatever unusual thing you want to do, wherever you find yourself. Also really useful for playing with a group if you don’t have the right ship in the right location. The Beluga in particular is a ship I’ve bought and then sold several times. Now with the prebuild I’ve got a Beluga in my pocket at all times.

I’d like a prebuilt pirate ship though. Krait phantom would be ok.
