Pre flight checks?

Almost going Un1korn-like on this on. Sat at a standby onthe Biggin hill flight path, turbo prop flys over and into my head pops the thought about the old engine pre flight checks on the old WW2 films , engine one (whines and splutters into life) check and so on and so forth. I then remembered that ore flight checks are in game, what does it do and is it anything fun?

You can go into the function panel and turn the pre-flight checks back on, but with computer control fly-by-wire its not really needed.

Cheers Wolfe but you still haven't told me what it does
If you wanna be dry about it, it's just a mechanism added to make sure a new cmdr knows where all the key controls are when they first take off.

But batter's answer isn't going to be beaten.

They should have pre-flight checks like "no crew assigned to fighter", or "you don't have enough for rebuy". You know, actually useful stuff.

FDev added a reminder in the last patch when you change ships that no active crew member has been set... popped up the other day when I switched from my Python to the Anaconda with SLF hangar...

Pre-flights are when you check all the air frames systems and controls. On cargo aircraft it can takes up to an hour or more, between the walk around and inspections.

In-game, our ships are fully controlled by its computer. The ship computer (module screen) instantly show's any damages so you dont have to do a visual inspection, so if its that broke it wont fly, or malfunction continually.

Now it would be cool if we could do a true pre flight if we wanted too, but need space legs first. Also if we could have analog instruments (at least an analog interpretation of our current cockpit) that would be incredible.

I feel like pre flight checks are a left over feature from when this game was intended to be a space flight sim with an emphasis on realism instead of arcade like game with realistic elements. It's kind of like how when you spin to fast in a vulture the screen turns red because it's too many g's I don't know if that's still true or not but I know it used to be.

After awhile I just stopped, the immersion for me wasn't there since everything ALWAYS checks.

But at the same time, if anything ever did fail, I would get aggravated with that mechanic as well.

Glad it's in there for the solid RP'ers and newbs though.

It was a list of everything with check boxes. Pitch up, pitch down, yaw, roll, throttle, and such controls. If I remember correctly you couldn't move onto one without completing the prior first. The last check was strafe up which would tell you to hold until thruster startup was complete. Like Wolfe3 said, you can turn it back on in the function tab to see remember what it was and see if you want that every time you launch.
