'Pre-Order Backers' not getting Gamma?

Hi

just incase some are not following the live thread with DB at the moment.

He just confirmed...

ALL KS backers (as well as beta and alpha) get to start playing in the gamma

everyone else gets to start playing as well, but in the training scenarios. For those who have not played at all yet, this is actually some decent gameplay to put you on for a few weeks, so hopefully everyone will see some positives in that :)

And to be 100% clear, this is what he said:

Firstly thanks for a great game, I look forward to playing this for a long time.

Just a quick question David, I have a few friends that have Kickstarter up to the full game pledge but not beta access. They they be able to play on 22nd or do they have to wait until December.

They will be able to play the single player combat test shortly after the Premiere event (ie during the following week), then the full game at release.

Apologies for replying to myself (!) but I mis-read the question. Yes. Kickstarter backers will be able to play on the 22nd. I was talking about people who have pre-ordered on the store.

Well that is good news... I can finally get out into space! Roll on Saturday!

I just read this whole thread. There were highs and lows and it ended on a cliffhanger. I understand what was stated in the latest newsletter but its still clear as mud. I pledged enough during kickstarter to get a copy of the game on release. I did not pledge enough for Alpha or Beta. Will I get access to gama on the 22nd?... Because I sure as spaceballs don't have a clue.

YES!

And who would have thought that Sir Dave himself would step into the forums to personally answer your question ;-)

And, he revealed new info that everyone who pre-orders will get access to the tutorial scenarios (which are single player tutorials) on 22nd as well!

Edit: Actually he said they could play tutorial scenarios some time the following week, so maybe not exactly 22nd, but between 24th and 28th.

So, the pre-order customers get to play exclusively Elite "Offline mode" for 3 weeks, possibly for the last time ever :-(

I'm on preorder.

Does anyone know what the 'single-player combat test' is that David mentioned in the other thread?
Are those the tutorials? I think it would be great if we'd get access to the tutorials on the 22nd and then to the full game on Dec 16.

Well that's that FINALLY cleared up (and actually the opposite yet again of something in the newsletter). I'm happy for all you KS backers who can now finally join us in Gamma!

WELCOME!

Now we just need confirmation of no wipes. I know FS have always stated no wipes after gamma starts unless there is a disaster but some users are convinced that has changed. It would be nice for 1 more confirmation :)

It's probably the tutorials that were made available to beta backers about a week before beta started. Basically it's a series of single player scripted mission type scenarios which automatically end when you complete certain objectives. However some of them are quite good, and pretty tricky, and I think you can just fly around the local area indefinitely as long as you don't complete the mission objectives.

Looks like you will get them shortly after the 22nd, guess that's to save the bandwidth for people downloading the gamma. They are quite good though, and gets you learning the controls...

I think, again, probably an 'on the hoof' decision but actually one that should make everyone happy. In all the arguments in the 19 pages preceding this I don't think anyone thought of a half way house solution like this. I don't think FD had thought of it when the original answers from MB were given (or maybe they had but needed time to make sure they could bring it about before announcing).

Pre-orderers should be delighted with this and the backers should have nothing against it either. Happy days.

It would probably help everyone if we stopped referring to other forum members as 'whiny' or indeed any other negative labels. Why rub salt into open wounds?

Does Gamma get wiped still or no?

Some people gamma isn't called gamma anymore but something else?

As far as I recall, expect a full progress wipe tomorrow, and again on Saturday.

After that, the plan is to avoid any more progress wipes unless something really serious requires it. For example, if FD finds that Stellar Forge is generating systems held up by four elephants standing on the back of a giant turtle.

I think there would be a lot of money to be made if that happens! :D

(Or maybe a certain author will come knocking).

I'm not so sure. I suspect this was the intention all along, but they didn't want to just release the information as a forum answer as it was supposed to be a "special surprise" for the pre order customers. They probably wanted to release it as part of the newsletter this Friday. It may have been an on the hoof decision for DB to release it yesterday. We were all just not clever enough to figure it out.

Beta still for sale

Interestingly, the store is still selling the beta version for £50, even though beta has ended.

So unless this is a mistake, it looks like they will carry on letting you buy into the game for £50 right up until release.

You are right. Hmm, I'd think it's a mistake. Maybe they still have a hangover from last nights Party and have forgotten to take Beta out of the store.
