Pre-Tech Thargoids?

Maybe some lore experts can help me here, a purely theoretical question.

Thargoids at the moment appear to be bio-mechanical, in that they have both electronic and organic components to them. The ships are undoubtedly alive, but also have lasers, etc. Thargoids came from Ammonia worlds, which are solid, I believe, not made of gas. (not confidant on that point though so please correct me if I'm wrong).

So my question is, what were Thargoids like when they were just organic, fleshy beings like us, and didn't have the mechanical component? At the moment, with the advent of smart wearables, humanity is potentially on a course to something similar. But prior to that, we're just flesh. Did the Thargoids always take that shape, always fly? Or are there little organic being inside controlling everything, and the ship is just an extension of their body?

I just find the idea of an Ammonia world with loads of organic Thargoids floating around to be a pretty strange and cool concept :)

We know so little about the Thargoids, but we already know that the Thargoids are an insect species.

Not fleshy exactly, but certainly purely organic at their inception. Most likely evolved from an arthropod-like, hive minded creatures, much like earthly ants or bees. The biochemistry of their bodies, where ammonia plays the role of a solvent (whereas our bodies use water), suggests that their homeworld is a world rich in ammonia. Very little else is known about their origin. There is also a floating hypothesis that Thargoids are actually bio-weapons engineered by the Guardians.

So my question is well out of scope of what FDev are willing to tell us about Thargoids :p Where's Michael Brookes when you need him? He was great for lore/history related questions.

My theory, and I think the conclusion that most people who are into this stuff have come to, is that the Thargoids are the AI created by the Guardians.

In the Guardian lore they made and AI, and part of their culture was all like "wohoo, AI, we're so advanced right now" and another part was like "Oh man, that was a mistake", and so they developed religion, and there was civil wars in which they blew themselves to bits.

If you take a Guardian artefact into Tharogoid structures they react extremely violently, similarly if you offer Guardian relics to them in space. From what we know there's no mention of any alien species in the Guardian's history, and we know Thargoid technology doesn't react at all to human junk, so it's unlikely the Thargoids just made their technology explode when any alien comes into contact with it. That means there is some link between the two species in the past. The Guardians have been extinct for millions of years, and so it seems likely that the Thargoids and Guardians had some extremely hostile connections in the distant past.

The only thing we know for a fact happened in the Guardians distant past was a violent war against their AI. I'm pretty sure the Thargoids are the evolved form of the Guardian AI, it basically went from machine intelligence to bio-mechanical life.

We also know (or suspect in Lore) that parts of the Thargoid bodies are actually some form of bio-polymer, because there's heavy suggestions that the Mycoid virus developed to wipe out the Thargoid jump drive technology back in the past also infected the Thargoids themselves, further supporting the idea that they're not an organic species.

I read somwhere that they are roughtly similar to a mantis with 2 pairs of arms , 3 digits each, and 2 pair of legs
