Precautions before I download 2nd ED copy? (got it real cheap, link in thread)

Humble bundle are doing a bundle that caught my eye, as I don't go for them normally. It has PC building sim and ED, the rest I don't want, for less than £12.
EDIT : ED package as low as £7 !!!

So, back to my thread. I have a standalone ED copy and now one on steam(just activated but NOT downloaded).
I have backup of my bindings. Any other precautions I should take ? Or steam installation advice that isn't obvious?
ty all :)

I have steam & non-steam and it all worked fine sharing bindings. Activating the steam version will be very annoying probably (it was for me).

I still haven't downloaded my steam ED.
Q : My steam and non steam ED are both the same email address. Will I have a problem if I download a steam version ?
Or how do I run 2 ED accounts with same email address ?
ty :)

Activiating the first Steam copy is normally a breeze... Further ones, with the 'new' launch from steam only method, require another steam login / email address...

Sadly, the 'new' launcher means Arx have to be purchased with Steams own currency, something I'm less than inclined to purchase 🤷‍♂️

ED for $7 is a bargain, if you don't already own it, as the game has quite a lot of content that should keep you entertained for a while.

Was a shame about multiple commanders not being introduced for the game - it was hinted at, by Brooks, a long time ago, but never materialised. Shame.

Oh my god, I don't know how it's handled on Fdev's end, but it might be that it will be the same Frontier account. In which case you just paid to access your current ED account on Steam 😱

Caviat :Assuming you are on PC:

The launchers for the two ED account work nicely in separate folders so that you can have two launcher icons on your desktop/bar for each account (to save having to log in when you switch accounts). I installed the two launchers into separate folders on a non-C/ drive (drive F I think it is off the top of my head). Not every update requires you to update the launchers as well but this is a thing! So prepare for it.
Bindings can stay where the default install is. Same with the journals unless you prefer to move these too. Although both accounts use the same bindings and journal files anyway.

Thanks for the heads up on that game deal btw!

Why download a second copy?

Just use your new account details in the launcher.

You can also use two separate launchers, and just link them to the one install so you can click each separate launcher to run each account.

It'd be... a bit mad to install the entire game twice... you'd need to update twice too!

Unfortunately, that only works with original FD accounts - it doesn't work any more with recent (ok, it's been half a year or so) Steam accounts since Steam has been decoupled from FD. You can't launch a Steam account copy through the FD launcher any more, so you need multiple Steam accounts for multiple Steam copies.

I'm just waiting for the solution to the chaos when Odyssey hits - and the current statement that Odyssey will only be available through Steam is correct...

what... That's gonna be a total mess- I absolutely do not want to link my frontier stuff to steam, and I have a lifetime pass, so will just "get" odyssey.

Mmmm. fun times ahead. I guess they'll force you to use steam.
I guess they'd be removing the launcher at that point?

PS: before pitchforks start flying my way thrown by people who likely still use Windows 7 because "important reasonz", let me just mention one thing: Steam Download Speeds. They far, far outperform what FDev pays for on Amazon.

In essence, I actually agree with you.

I just have my stuff set up, and don't want to have to mess about moving stuff around on my hard drives...

It isn't broke, I don't want to fix it.

You need multiple Steam accounts, but they can all use the same install of ED, you just need t make sure that each Steam user has the install folder as a Steam Library folder. I set up a new Windows account so that the logs for each cmdr are kept separate, but I don't think that you have to.

Likewise. I have 3 accounts, 1 is a LEP from the kick starter and if I have to tie any of them to steam I will not be happy.

Yep, you'd need to create more steam accounts, that will be a total ballache, one more reason (not that any are needed...) That you should have been allowed to have multiple characters on one account, like with almost everything else, instead of the konami level joke system they used. (Buy the entire game plus all expansions AND cosmetics for each character...)
