Prefer X52 pro to X55 am I mad!!!

Hi

Anyone else prefer the X52 pro over the X55?

Bought an X55 for premium beta and wasn't impressed from the start, the joystick was sticking on the strongest spring (which I did manage to fix)

But to me at least the whole thing felt cheap

Some how the X52 pro feels better to me, was sure I'd be returning it as just bought it on a whim because it was cheap (100 quid brand new).

Guess its an individual thing but just wondered what others thought.

Cheers

I have been looking at buying a HOTAS for awhile now. I love the look of the x55 and it has more buttons and switches than the x52 but all the reviews I have read say the x52 is better quality. Everybody loves the feel of the throttle that the x55 has but the stick is lack luster.

I had both. sent both back.

X52 was way better to use - better stick and better throttle.

I hated the X55 throttle more than I did the stick. Yes it has lots of lovely buttons and looks nice but I found the arrangement of the controls on the thing itself to be horrible, having to bend the thumb too far to reach things and I have neither small nor large hands, it was a matter of design. Most of the buttons seem very stiff and require what seems like too much force to press. You would need to book regular visits to a physiotherapist if you use an X55 regularly.

I am using a refurbished Logitech 3D Pro in the right hand now which cost £20 and is easily a better stick feel than either brand new X52 or X55.

Got a x52Pro and i love it !
It does not like USB3 , it does draw power, but it works and feels very nice.
The stick may at start feel a little "loose" but muscle memory overcame this fast.
Had the Warthog had twist , well I might...
I am very pleased.

A good used X52 that you can mod can work out really well. I went from a Logitech extrem3d and was initially disappointed. But with the linear magnet mod, superglues shaft to handle. All the play and nonlinearity is gone. It's much more precise and you can lateral thrust with the hat on the throttle. No need for keyboard etc. Full control of ship systems with the stick. More throttle travel gives you more options.

Saitek sticks do not feel as solid in build quality and mine has had to have some resoldering done inside several times due to bad design flaws that rub through insulation over time. But it is a good stick when it's working right.

I agree, I was initially dissapointed with the x52 pro when it first arrived due to the resistance bands on the throttle. It made it hard to fine tune things like landing, etc... But with some help from the online modding communities I got it all 'fixed' to just the way I like it.

I LOVE the x52 over all my other joysticks and throttle set ups. (I bought it JUST for Elite :D ) Now I use it for all my flight sims

Pro Tip: To anyone with ANY joystick, when you first launch Elite make sure to MANUALLY input all the axis yourself. Almost all of my flight sticks hand the axis read as full on/off so it was Extremely hard to fine tune flight in space. It will make everything silky smooth (Just rebind all axis points - pitch/yaw/roll/throttle) Hope this helps

I'm not a big fan of Saitek in general, I had an x45 a good while back but I just don't like their build quality or their design and i'm seeing similar complaints from people about the newer versions.

Personally I think I'm Thrustmaster and CH from here on out.

Get a CH Pro Throttle to go with it, and you're golden.

x55 prefers USB3 and x52 prefers USB2 I think.

I got an x52 especially for E : D and it is perfect for me at least

Are your hand deformed? I don't have to bent my thumb at all.

The X55 is great. Just takes getting used to. You gotta give it tlc. It's not great out of the box. I had to modify mine. But now, it works like a dream, and looks pretty f'ing cool to boot. :p
