Premium ammo

Simply, we need an ammo premium warning when we take premium damage. We must to know it. Ty.
Sorry about my bad english.

Surely you can tell by the amount of damage you are taking? Oh btw, what alternative decisions might you make if you knew they were using premium ammo versus standard? Time for a combat log?

You are at a Guardian site trying to get some blueprint running around in an SRV. Sentries are looking to take you out. If you parked your ship close with Pointe Defense they will take out the sentry missiles but you still have to hide and seek using the SRV brake. Still with stock ammo on the SRV you will spend a lot taking them out.at 80 percent firepower then awaiting a recharge. This is where synthesizing premium SRV ammo makes this task easier blowing the Sentries away or have a friend with class 2 beams hovering in a ship taking out the Sentries as you find them.

Are there other moments say at a Thargoid site with friends where premium ammo on an SRV makes a difference? From my play style not so much. But other players may be very serious getting into the heart of a Thargoid base. Been there and done that. Will Odyssey add something to this while we are on foot? We'll see...

Then again on foot Odyssey is about stealing stuff at planetary bases in a new play style and getting away with it. Good luck.

Regards

At least this, yes.

No you can't. Because you're trying to not get hit by your opponent while trying to hit your opponent while fumbling with pips.
Edit and I would highwake out and refuse to fight.
Better: just remove premo. The game has such a weird bias to ammo weapons.
Even better.

You seriously bring guardian sentries as a reason premium ammo should exist? Must be a new low for the forums 🤦‍♂️

A prismatic FDL can have something around 10,000+ EHP varying greatly depending on pip placement. Even if the damage output of an opponent were standardised (it isn't) it is almost impossible to 'intuit' whether the amount of damage taken to that enormous and fluctuating pool fits expectations.

Add to this build variation, some people mix in short range plasma mods amongst their efficients, for example. Many people use Thermal Conduit which, when procced, amounts to a +60% damage buff from all weapons of that type.

Add to this the shaky foundation of P2P networking, making it difficult to be sure damage is being calculated correctly according to what's happening on your screen.

Add to this the fact that when you're in a fight you have a dozen other things to be paying attention to and are unlikely to want to look down at your shield percentages in the crotch menu and do calculations on a post-it during the fight. Most people do these calculations after on video playback, if something seemed fishy, if they're able to ascertain what their opponents actual build was.

"Surely you can just tell by the amount of damage taken" - no, you can't. Premium reloads swing fights, which is why people want to be aware of it when searching for a test of skill, but with the timescale and health spectrum involved it's not always possible to intuit.

As for what alternative decisions you might make: most 'legitimate' PvP players in Elite have accepted the limitations of the game, made peace with the fact there are largely no diegetic stakes, and are literally just looking for a fair and engaging test of skill. A premium indicator would help achieve this for many people. Don't conflate this request with gankers, the kinds of players who request a premium check mechanic are not the kinds of players who care about seal clubbing or dealing with bottom-feeding troll builds.

You have a better use for SRV premium ammo I'm also triple Elite with NPCs. Live players it means nothing.

I am gonna Necro this post and I am sorry but this "Premium" ammo is totally unnecessary! I fail to see the point of it. There's no reason for it, period! It should be removed from the game. I've thought that maybe there should be a warning that it's being used against you, but ah, nope! Just remove it as an option and only allow the restock of a standard ammo, ever, for any reason! Premium Ammo! Pff! What, are we playing Skyrim where we can enchant our swords?
Also, why are there "Basic" and a "Standard" options too? There should be a single ammo for each weapon, be that Basic or Standard, whatever you want to call it... I call it standard "ammo" which you can synth if needed but never buffed by anything other than how you engineer your weapon(s)!

Some things should be left dead. No, not this thread, premium ammo

Inb4 the AX pilots come complaining they can't kill Hydras in Haulers any more without their precious premium ammo.
The gankers won't bother to come though...

The bigger problem is it barely ever gets used. They should let you synthesize ammo for specific purposes, and the ammo should apply to ALL your weapons at once.

IE, synthesize Smart Munitions with ~10 g1 materials. Suddenly your weapons don't damage allies anymore. I have literally never heard of anyone using that experimental, but as a synthesis option? I'd totally use it in certain cases, like near installations or capital ships.

Let's see... We have currently, irl, Single projectile, Multiple projectile, Frangible projectile, Incendiary,
Armor piercing, Explosive, Delayed explosive, Tracer, and probably a few others as projectiles. Then there are, on top of that, multiple propellant loads as evidenced by the +P and +P+ loads of common ammunition.
So, there should actually be more choice by removing any engineering that would 'mimic' any above ammo type effects, Offer up types of ammo instead, and re-assign the basic, standard, and premium to velocity.

Also, Lasers should be reworked to account for the power change of different wavelengths.
