Premium Beta question - HOTAS

Hi folks,

I've just bought into the premium beta and I'm looking at giving it a try. I remember asking when it first came out whether it supported the X-55 Rhino HOTAS and I was told it didn't (... the latest Alpha did, but the Beta didn't).

I'm wondering if it's been updated since then so you can actually use it?

We 'premium beta users' won't get an update until the around 30th May. You can still use the X55 (It's what I'm using) but only the stick, or if you can figure it out there is a work around that involves making windows think it is one device.

I just had a brief glance through the manual and didn't see anything about creating a profile to combine your two devices into 1. I even installed the software to have a look but am fairly limited as to what I can do w/o having them actually plugged in. You might inquire about that functionality on the Saitek forums?

Here is a tutorial from MechWarrior: Living Legends (Crysis Mod I used to play) on setting up PPJoy. It looks like (from the screenshots) you should be able to combine both devices into one for the sake of playing your Alpha build.

Considering you have another 4 weeks of waiting for updated ED -- you have some time to tinker around with this and see if it works for you :D

Edit 1: Out of curiosity now I dug a little further. If you have the X-55 drivers installed, you will probably get a Device ID for each device (throttle and stick), with PPJOY Virtual Joystick ID at the bottom. I don't know how ED will handle this. If it doesn't work with just PPJoy, you might want to try this solution to change the virtual joystick ID so it appears first. The link you want is a mediafire link a few posts down the thread. Or you can just click here directly.

If you are in the Premium BETA, then you are currently plaing with ALpha 1.1 This Alpha 1.1 release DOES NOT correctly support the X55.

But Alpha 3 (and later releases, so that includes Premium Beta) do support it correctly. You MIGHT have to create your own profile for it, but it will work.

Actually, I was able to successfully setup X55 during Alpha 2 using UJR via vJoy.

Also there is a thread here devoted to X55:

Thanks guys for your answers.

IT seems this is probably one of the most helpful gaming communities I've come across. I like the no-need-to-be-an-arsehat mentality here. :)

Hey Tovrin,

I have the X55 and after getting help from Aleksej on why it wasn't working i ended up biting the bullet and getting the Alpha.

Single device HOTAS's like the X52.. I know there is two units but there's only one USB input.. Recognize the thrust as the 'Z' axis, where dual input set-ups see the left & right throttle as separate 'X' & 'Y' axis.

Also, I want to let you know it is an excellent controller and works brilliantly with Elite.

Hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

Good luck & good game Commander.
