Didn't see this flagged up elsewhere, but thought it worth it's own thread

From Zac's response here (my bold):

Hey Astral! This is a very reasonable and understandable post. Hopefully I can put your mind at ease a little.

In addition to all the content talked about at Frontier Expo, we also have some pretty cool things in the works which will be available to purchase. We're not ready to talk about them just yet so we can't give you any details but rest assured that the lifetime expansion pass owners will be looked after and will be getting their hands on premium content as part of their lifetime expansion pass before the end of 2018 and the Beyond series of updates.

I hope that helps,

Zac

Which was a response to this post:

I think it's the right way to go ; the yearly season model just does dwindle the player base. Still I have a bitter taste i my mouth when I think of the 165€ I cashed in for the LEP, when I could have got Horizons and be good until Q4 2018 - at the very least. When I bought LEP in August 2015, the (10y)plan was one extension per year, and even then the added-value of the LEP was a gamble : it would be covered after about three extensions/seasons. Now we know that Horizons lasts for three years... FDev should really seriously consider some perks, or partial refunds by now.

Speculation: Sounds like good news on the face of it. At minimum some form of additional content to the roadmapped stuff. At best, some form of silo work coming to fruition that warrants being paid DLC?

Sounds to me like the same model we've had previously but slightly tweaked into modular updates.

So previously you had :

  • A baseline game continually being updated, the 1.x line
  • Alongside this, the DLC being updated, 2.x for a pre-purchase fee

For 2018 (let's just call it 3.x to keep things simple)...

  • 1.x is considered done, frozen, perhaps it gets the odd bugfix
  • 2.x becomes the baseline, 2018 develops this core
  • Alongside this, 3.x updates appear, aka premium content, these are sold separately as modular packaged units in their own right

So say 3.A might be volcanic landings dlc (£5), 3.B might be a naval rank dlc (£5).

And with this they move away from the 3.x naming since each update functions independently, you can have 3.D, 3.B and not 3.A if you want.

This it good as, "don't like it don't buy it". God knows weve heard enough, "I am not interested on combat" complaints.

On the flipside folk are no doubt gonna complain about what should be available to all and what should be paid, also risk of pay to win (which to be honest I think is inevitable).
