Preorder and Brexit?

Since it seems increasingly likely that we're going to have a hard Brexit - anyone got any idea how that will work out with ED preorders (compared to orders in the new year)?

If I preorder, I pay British/EU VAT now, but the product will be delivered after the Brexit when I won't have to pay the British VAT any more, but would need to pay the German import tax instead - so which regulation will apply? I don't want to end up having to pay both British VAT now and German import tax in (hopefully) April...

Is there an import tax on downloading a game dlc on the internet? Thats outrageous

OK I'll repost my response (could have just deleted the parts about Brexit but never mind)...

There should be no impact at all, or negligible. I've never noticed any additional costs buying stuff from outside of the EU. And there's no paying additional anything for an actual delivery for digital stuff anyway so I doubt you'd need to pay tax twice (and I think that goes for delivery of physical goods, all tax is payable at the point of purchase - it would be outrageous if you had to pay more tax after you'd already bought something because of something like this).

Having had a quick google;
Under WTO rules digital products are currently Tariff free.
The EU has expressed a desire to impose tariffs at some point in the future but this has not yet happened (and of course the digital industry lobby is fighting this).
As such it's just the VAT under standard rules.
