prepaid insurance toggle

For some people, they may have overbought their cargo. Some may have just gotten the ship but alot of people can't figure out how large the risk of flying without insurance. For those people, I propose an automatic insurance toggle. Simply add 5% to the cost of all components and ship so that any death is prepaid. Done deal. No more crying.

I think the best idea is put a warning when you lack insurance before you launch. So it a easy fix. It also dose not dumb down the game more.

AFAIK the insurance is already paid in advance when you buy your ship/components. The 5% are an additional fee. I think it's a good thing that some people learn it the hard way, so they understand this game is not babysitting them and are prepared for the next unfair experience. Just my opinion.

I made a proposal in one of the thousand other threads about insurance. The station control already tells you that you should fly slowly and so on, she/he could easily say "dont fly what you cant afford - allways remember to have your insurance covered."

That's not any better than simply giving people their ship back with no cost. Increasing the cost of items automatically doesn't mean anything to anyone.
Insurance is in the manual (page 103) and your premium is listed in the right panel. If you are going to be upset by that, you're going to be upset as to why your laser don't fire after a while (overheating), your guns don't fire (no ammo), your heat sink doesn't work.
People can grasp the idea of ammo, people can grasp the idea of insurance. If they are old enough to drive a car, they can grasp the idea of insurance and have some idea how it works (and Elite doesn't even have monthly premiums, just a fee when you explode). If you're not old enough to drive a car, consider it a good intro to the concept.

If an additional solution is needed, this is the form that I think it should take.

If it in the Manual all they have to be upset from is Not reading the MANUEL.

And when you die you need to immediately prepay the 5% on your replacement ship or you can't have it?

Edit: or what Heartwork said basically. Can only work once, and is therefore more confusing.

Before leaving station look at right screen. There is a spot that tells you your rebuy cost under your balance. Is credit balance more than insurance cost? Yes:fly on No:sell back that new module or take a hit selling back some of your cargo.

Why are people even still talking about this? Just look at the thing on the right and make sure you have enough money for your excess.

What you /\ said.... so so simple, you only have an excuse to make that mistake once... after that it should be firmly imprinted on the brain!

Do these fools need their bums wiped for them in real life too?

aah, but that takes planning and Maths. We are unfortunately in the nanny state era, people want everything doing for them, and most whippersnappers nowadays couldnt do the Maths anyway. Fully agree, leave as is have some rep

Wow, we are really in trouble if folk can't look at two figures and make sure the correct one is larger than the other! I do have a suggestion for such people... go watch Peppa Pig :)

I'd be interested in knowing;
1. How many players have lost ships. (Total players affected)
2. How many never played again.
3. How many tickets or threads on issue.
4. How many appear to have just carried on.

I think it's a bit of a storm in a teacup (and yes it's me saying that).
It's fine as it is. Learn to take some responsibility for your own gaming.
