Preparing for update

Hi - My launcher is sitting in "preparing to update" for the past hour. I can see HDD is at 100% so it's doing something, but I am not sure I am happy with the amount of exercise this is giving my HDD. Hope it doesn't kill it.

Is there a better way to distribute updates that doesn't kill user experience (takes too long, done too often, have no choice but to install) and doesn't kill my machine (hours of digging through my HDD even before update is downloaded).

Thanks

As to your first question - if you find it, a lot of people will want to talk to you and make you lucrative offers. Even Microsoft requires a full reboot for its updates.
For your second question - if you're really bottlenecked by your HDD, a faster mass storage (and that might include using a faster bus, motherboard and CPU) might help.

If it comforts you: the scrubbing through your game files on your storage medium is done to mitigate the negative effects of your first question, i.e. to check what is actually required for download in your specific case. This also gives a partial answer to that first question: the more often you let the system do it, the faster (and smaller) each individual update becomes.

Of course - the above is only valid for the actual game update from FD. If you add additional layers (like Steam or Epic), who may decide to do and transfer a lot of other stuff, all bets are off.

Got it, it's all common sense, though it's about 10x as bad it has ever been, hence my post. Sumthin' gone bad.

Decided to reinstall. So we'll see.

BTW - so much fun when your lunch talks back (🐈 = yum)
