Reference the speaker of the house thing, while true, remember that the Federation isn't the USA, so a parallel shouldnt be drawn unless there is lore to support it. If the last few month of the imperial succession crisis have shown us anything, it'll just lead to situations like we've had where people who've played Crusader Kings a couple of times bandy terms like gravelkind, Ultimogeniture or Primogeniture and act like they're history professors :)

OMG...This is gonna be more complicated than I thought....sighs...

CAN ANYONE PLEASE EXPLAIN WHAT THE HECK IS A SHADOW PRESIDENT???

thanks

Kancro, judging from the Lore we've seen and their opposing political stances (republican vs liberal) in powerplay, it safe to assume the Shadow President is effectively the leader of the opposition.

hope that helps.

A shadow president is the president in opposition.
So in the UK where the main 2 parties are Labour and Conservative.
As recently the Conservatives were elected with David Cameron as the Prime Minister, the Labour leader (who was Ed Miliband) is known as the Shadow Prime Minister. <- Same thing but Presidents.

Since they both represent the people of the Federation its not really a huge issue if the opposition guy takes over briefly until the election of a new Leader.

Edit: Half ninja'd :)

Wait..what??

The president steps down and then the opposition party steps in automatically?? :::scratches head:::

OP, I don't think this is based on the US constitution...seems more like UK Constitution so we better learn it!!

So what happens with this Shadow figure then?? Is there something in place to bring them down I guess?? Until next elections??

This isn't the case reference the UK Political system either, hence my original point about not making broad assumptions based on history/current events.

I'm just trying to draw the closest parallel I could find. :)

Its more a case of the closest thing to a leader takes charge. As has been pointed out in the Uk we have a "neutral" speaker who would take over so its not exactly the same as what would happen in reality.

Although just because they opposed the President in the election doesn't mean they stand for radically different views. The Federation could all have similar goals just with different views on how to achieve them. I've not played previous games so don't really have all the lore.. Can anyone fill in a bit on the background of the Federation?

Winters may have taken over as "High Ranking Official Available", but her duties/powers might be limited to organizing a Snap election, in the case the death of the President and Vice-President has been confirmed.
There is still an active community goal for the search.

From Newsletter #22
The Federation has an 8 year term as President with a Vote of Confidence required at the end of the first four years to confirm the second.
Congressman Hudson, already the Shadow President, had been building support to remove President Halsey from office.
As he is speaking aloud about it it would suggest that the Vote of Confidence was coming up.
Given the support Hudson has, it would be likely that he would be next President should the election be held next week.

That isn't what they said happens :)

The Shadow President leads the opposition Party, but isn't the next in line if the president disappears.
If there was an election after the death however and given Halsey's unpopularity (which would be a mark against her party) and Hudson's Popularity He would likely win

Thanks Vasious, thats pretty much what I was looking for.

Yeah I just saw the CG now, could just find remains of ship though so its still questionable. Or it could be stranded and after powerplay there is a refuelling CG with the new drones?!?

But in all seriousness, from her last known position which was mormo, all the way to Azaleach, there is no debris site in the surrounding jumps, she got pulled into witchspace definitely, they were in middle of hyperspace and there was a malfunction which is similar to the Thargoid rumors of old. You know the rumors, how traders were just making casual jumps and then randomly a malfunction happens mid jump and they end up never being heard from again. My idea was to head towards polaris, but thats past 200 LY from the originating system of the CG..... Anyways. So the question is, in what direction did she get pulled out from and how far away. That she disappeared after the Mormo system.

I even know a few Imperial Pilots who are helping in the find, because they know the thargoids are a common threat.
