General / Off-Topic PRESTEL and BBS's

Came across this working example of what Google might have looked like in the 80's http://www.masswerk.at/googleBBS/

It certainly brought back some memories. I used many BBS's back then and spent a lot of time on PRESTEL.

Considering when Elite was released I expect there are many backers that used PRESTEL and BBS's back then.

I was always curious about the option in PRESTEL to buy time on a CPU, priced in seconds I think, but had no idea what I could possibly use it for :D

Good find, it's exactly how i would have imagined it to be. :D

I used to use BBS too, and from there I got hacked and test PSS/Dialplus accounts - they were MUCH more fun! ;) This must have been, what, almost 30ish years ago? Was so funny using outdials in the USA to access local bulletin boards there - the locals could often hardly believe I was in another country and the BBS admins would usually give you a free account just because you were international! There were a lot of hackers buzzing around on those systems too, they often gave me access to stuff but I wasn't interested, I was just a tourist... I think half the time I just chatted on QSD (some rudimentary chat system based in France IIRC). Great fun though.
