Community Event / Creation Prismatic Imperium's Reward System for Background Simulation

We had that problem. We had our background sim, we had things we wanted done. We had players. But we needed to incentivise players to actually do the missions. Good will and begging only get you so far.

We gave our players missions for BGS activities:

The above is from our public missions today, but it works similarly to what we had. The problem was our players each had their own agendas, goals and reasons for being in the Prismatic Imperium, not all of which meant a player wanted to work our BGS. So we started adding 'diamond prizes' to missions.

We quickly needed these to mean something so ranks and reputation were added based on our new 'diamond currency'. Diamonds can also be earned through roleplay or players gifting to each other or even hiring one another to do missions for their own agendas. Our different branches also started using diamonds so if you do Guardians missions or visit Sag A* you also get diamonds as a reward.

They can also spend these things in our market:

To buy things for their character. These things are decorative, bragging rights or used in roleplay or all three.

It's a complex system, built up and layered over time, each step having its own reason, but the Prismatic Imperium has built a game within a game all around our Background Simulation.

So that's how we do things and it began over a discussion about how to get players to do missions, but involved a lot of people (planners, website, artwork) and still does to this day. What it allowed us to do was involve our players more, take the stress off the three members actually doing the BGS and gave us a reward system outside of BGS, we even use it for Power Play.

I hope this helps inspire others or give an idea as to what can be done.

Superb work!! :) Very Nice!! It's great to give players a sense of purpose to do stuff in the game, specially when you reach the end game point. I think the game could really benefit from some in game mechanic that does this, and I hope it gets implemented with the player group "Squadrons" announced at FDev Expo. Something like the community goal system, but internal to groups and that can be setup by the Squadron leaders would be very nice indeed.

We have tried something very similar over at Simbad. We have top BGS goals posted and rewards are offered in Simbits, a internal currency that we have setup with our bot. People can be awarded, exchange amongst themselves and spend "Simbits" in a store, all done using bot commands. They can purchase Discord perks such as new custom bot commands, adding new emojis to our Discord or getting the "i'm Special" role that constantly cycles color, OR exchange accumulated Simbits for items on the Frontier Store we then gift to them with money that was donated to the group by our members in the first place. We also give Simbits prizes out at our events.

I'm hoping sharing these ideas help people realize their potential. They were really well received by our community. Here a preview how our bot works and a peek at the prizes list from our "Simbits Store/ Kinjo's Restaurant" (MAJOR KUDOS TO CMDR LEAVISM for developing this AWESOME bot) :

We have a Discord channel for the goals, here is what a typical post looks like and also the post from when we launched the initiative:

Very nice.

Now add loot chests! :p

I'd like to do that for our group, but i'm afraid our CMDR Jankules would bankrupt us within the first week. :D

Whoops yeah, I'm re-posting with links to pics instead of copy pasting. It seems like the Discord formatting didn't stick.

Amazing work Jeff!! It's great to give players a reason to do stuff in-game, particularly when you get to the end-game point. So much to do in Elite, but without a sense of purpose and contributing to something bigger, I have found it's not as engaging for players. I believe there is real potential for a game mechanic and I'm hoping to eventually see some sort of re-tweaked CG system but internal to squadrons and manageable by squadron leaders. This would effectively be a real mission system.

We have something similar over at Simbad. We post goals in a discord channel and reward players with a currency system we call "Simbits". These are awarded for events as prizes but also awarded for completed BGS related missions/tasks. These can then be spent on some Discord perks (essentially donating their value back to the group) or spent on Frontier Store items we then gift to them using money that was donated by members in the first place.

I'm hoping sharing our success with these mission systems will help people realize how they could make this game even better. :)

Major KUDOS to CMDR Leavism for developing this amazing bot. Here's a few screenshot of how this all works :

Looks fun. :)

They seem to enjoy it and it works too. We had months and months of our BGS staff getting annoyed about 3 people doing BGS. We've had elements of this system since February with it becoming closer and closer to this and finally the market opened which completed it a couple of months ago. Not that it won't be improved upon, rebalanced and added to as needed.

Lots and lots of nice things...

Excellent work. And thanks for sharing! I was a little concerned that the folks behind our system would resent my making it public, but Doom (who started the Diamond Project and maintains our website) was very open to the idea with sharing himself.

I do hope it inspires others, BGS has a poor reputation, but without it, we'd have had nothing to build upon and by sharing perhaps we can inspire other groups to use or come up with their own systems. Or maybe even FDEV can add some similar systems.

We also have the advantage of being a roleplay group, so it all ties into that as well.

You have always had problems but it seems your answer is less communications about an ideal and just sell to strangers.

Cos stuff like; do a thing and get a jacket is crap. Quick quick DO x and you will get a hat is crap

'
. The problem was our players each had their own agendas' Damn! Whod have thunked

Maybe they just dint care. Blazze your own trail along the beaches,

Still interested though in the idea of 'our player group has control issues' cos from my drunken mind it seems like a control freakery thing

WIN!

I admit, I did suspect drink was involved in these posts :D Sleep well Ben. I find putting my foot on the ground stops the world spinning so much.

Hey its inter webs. Its always good fun.

your group and its part of the long struggling aisling group adn yours being the best (as I thin)

still has to struggle. But stuff like sell crap jumpers to folk is really clutching at strwars.

N oner wants to get a bad feedback post or feel oh no ho I iss trolled or that kinda o thing

So I thinkink you can take it from a mostly harmless guy that the isuse is inpt about selling crap hooides but just getting the right kind of player group fit in int?

Is the answer sel to em,?

I think you need a new keyboard, Ben ;)

@Jeff - pretty cool idea! Lucky in our group people do BGS cos they want to, but it's nice extra. I may think about adding something similar, just for role play and fun!

You understand it's fake currency they earn by doing ingame actions? We're not really selling them things...

Yep I get that , thing I was questioning was stuff about 'your players' type stuff cos it makes you come across atlest o me as suckcers that have no respect f rplayers doing their own thing an d haveig a need tyo contrl them via some sale pitch rather than them know your goals and agreeing with em.

When a player group claims ownership of players 'our players aint doning what we tell em' We best give them an insentient to gain control over em sound desperate and sell em a ingame crap jumper sounds terrible
