Prismatic Shield Generator - Worth the Grind?

I don't really have the spare time for PP - Do I really need them for a shield tank?
They're worth it.

Although I wouldn't really call doing nothing for 3 weeks, then murdering 25 NPC's "grind". Lol
Unless you do the dull leaflet gubbins, which I have no idea why anyone would choose to do, when you can murder stuff instead, and collect materials...

They are expensive though. I recommend having plenty of credits (like half a billion at least) spare, so you can buy multiple sizes.

I'm currently signed up waiting until I can buy a load more, because I didn't buy enough last time. Lol

Do I really need bacon in my burger?
This. (the answer is: not necessarily "need", but everything is better with bacon)
I don't really have the spare time for PP

Pledge, wait a few weeks and then spend about an hour shooting NPCs or spend 7.5 million on fortification*
*please do so responsibly

And if you want as much shielding as possible then yes, just be prepared to pay a lot of cash.
Also, this.

This, too.

+1 on the "it's not a grind, just a wait" theme; though I have to say that filling my Cutter with PowerPlay commodities ten tons at a time must be one of the worst designed experiences in the history of gaming. Edit: Kissamies posted while I was writing this.

Would anyone else like to see the PowerPlay weapons/modules moved to the Tech Brokers, leaving PowerPlay to those who want to actually play it?

I dunno.

They seem like a good idea until you actually use them, and then they tend to become irritating due to the slow recharge rate/puny recharge from SCBs.

I fit 'em to all my cargo ships, passenger ships and to any ships that are horrifically under-shielded.
Basically, I really only think they're useful for ships that I don't plan to get shot at.
My Multirole ships all get A-rated shields and my Combat ships & Mining ships get Bi-weaves 'cos I tend to think recharge rate is more important that outright strength.

Absolutely! They could perhaps keep unlocking the modules at the broker as a perk, but those players who only wanted the modules would just unlock them as a normal tech broker unlock, which would be much faster.

I really like the "unlock as a perk" idea, though the effort required for a PowerPlay unlock and a Tech Broker unlock would have to be balanced.*

Having unlocks by either path, though, would be a huge boon: I literally have dozens of storage ships filled with PowerPlay modules on the "better to have them and not need them" principle which I could get rid of if I could just buy the modules as and when needed after unlocking them.

*Edit: though I suppose effort versus delay would be a sort of balance as it is.

Prismatic Shields are worth is if you like shield tank pvp builds or if you like having the most shields when escaping.

If you prefer fast ships with plenty hull where you can afford to have your shields drop and regen, save the time and use bi-weaves and regular.

Many thanks all - So from what I can work out, I need to set aside 356,288,143 credits (to buy one of each size), pledge to Aisling Duval for 3 weeks, then in the final week pew pew for a bit then spend my cash. Then unpledge and leave PP for ever more? :)
Then if I want to play with them then I can..

As said above, they are very easy to unlock, just wait 3 weeks and kill 25 enemy ships. They are useful for pvp or say cargo or taxi ships that just want to get away, possibly having a smaller prismatic for more cargo space.

Hi Commanders
I have just done the PP thing with she of the blue rinse and would like some advice from more knowledgeable players:

Q: When Engineering the Prismatic Shields is it recommended to go with 'Enhanced Low Power' shields?
Q: Which 'Experimental Effect' is best to add?

Thanks in advance for advice IF this isn't a couple of those 'how long is a piece of string' sort of questions!

Not exactly.
I got 2 of each size and i found out that i will run out of size 3 to size 6.
To be on the safe side and futureproof - i'd say get 2 of each size then 2 more from each size 3 to size 6

Especially Class 5, since it is used on a lot of ships.

It depends on the ship and the purpose. On an AX ship, you want as big shields as possible (heavy duty). For regular combat you might want a good balance of resistances (thermal resistant). In general don't bother with effects on the recharge rate, it will be too low anyway. Try to max out capacity with the special effect.

For example, on my trade Cutter and Python, I use a reasonable small (i guess it was class 5 and 4) thermal resistant Prismatics with a couple of boosters. For my AX loadout, I use heavy duty 8A Prismatic.

Don't forget that you need to hand in the bonds to convert them to merits. Personally, I usually do the 7.5mil click-click grind and deliver whichever commodity the power wants distributed as it's faster.

Edit: I'd also get a few more of the smaller sizes (3-5); as people already pointed out, they're a good option for bolstering defenses on traders without losing cargo capacity. And better wait with the unpledging until the next cycle, or you will probably suddenly notice that you'd better had bought one more ;)

Grind? What grind?

You pledge, wait for 3 weeks, and buy the tons of papers you need in order to reach the right tier. I believe I did it under an hour, 3 years ago, or so...
So are they worth the NOT grind? Imo, not even that. I got a couple of them, but never use them.
