Prismatic shields on corvette. Is the recharge rate the same as fixed or bi weave?

I fly a Corvette with bi weave shields.
I find that for pve bi weave suits me better than fixed because of the higher regeneration rate. As fixed shields take about 10 mins to recharge one ring.
I am now thinking of getting prismatic shields.
Do they take as long to recharge?

Bi-weaves are usually the ticket for PvE, especially in a big three ship. You don't need absolute strength, you just need your shields to not be whittled down over multiple encounters.

Prismatics take significantly longer to recharge than even standard shields. Without any mods (reinforced slows regen rate, and other mods can get regen secondaries), a standard 7A shield generator regens at 1.8/s, class 7 bi-weaves at 4.4/s, and 7A prismatics at 1.1/s.

Standard BountyHunting (HazRes): Bi-Weave. No need for Standard or Prismatics - on the contrary!
You can get 2300++ MJ with 65% Resistances overall. Even bringing Gold with you won't get you into Danger!

But Perma-Aggroing in CZs (like I do 'cause of high damage weapons): Prismatics with a lot SCBs. You won't recharge a 7A Prismatic in your play session during waiting (40min++) ;-) but for heavy fights a Prismatics with 80% more shield strength keep you in the battle far longer (I normally run out of Ammo than of SCBs)

Prismatics have the same recharge in MJ/sec as normal shields (contrary to some previous posts), it's just that the maximum capacity of prismatics is larger, so it takes longer on the same recharge rate to fully recharge shields, there's an important distinction there.

So, yes, you'd be better off with bi weave for PVE. I personally still use prismatics for PVE so I can't be caught off guard in unexpected PvP from some attacker.

Prismatics take forever, but if you have a bit of breathing room, should they drop, you can always do a reboot/repair from the functions tab (right menu). When the system reboots the shields come back immediately at half charge (1 1/2 rings), the downside is the full system shutdown leaving you helpless for a moment.

That said I really think it's not right that the biggest combat focused ship in the game doesn't have a single size 8 internal so that we could fit the much more powerful size 8 shields, cause the 8A Prismatic can hit over 10000 shield strength with boosters (and while that sounds like a lot, remember a single reverb torpedo boat can strip all that away instantly, leaving you shieldless, as can cascade mines).

Honestly I wish we would get a single size 8, I'd go back to being aligned with Aisling just to get them.

This isn't true, prismatics do have slower recharge in exchange for bigger cap (along with mass, power etc): 6A standard is 1,3/s regen with 5,3/s broken regen. Prismatics are 1,0/s and 3,2/s broken.

To expand:

6A with booster on a Python will give you 477MJ and recharge of 45sec

6A Prismatic gives you 476MJ and recharge of 1min 14sec

Really?
If thats the case, than that blue haired female dog can have her clismatic shields back.

They can have a lower MJ/s recharge now. The relevant line is in the 2.2.03 patch notes here:

- Regeneration rates when shields are active but have not recently taken damage are increased. It is now the maximum between what is was before (a fixed value for all sizes) and 25% of their broken regen (40% for biweave). This is lower than is was in beta

The upshot of that is C5 and smaller shields having the same MJ/s regen rate (i.e. 1MJ/s) whether prismatic or standard. While C6, C7 and C8 standard shields have a progressively increasing MJ/s regen advantage over equivalent prismatics.

Careful there. Her shields might take longer to come back online but once we start getting encounters with Thargoids, I'm sure some engineers will be able to modify them to withstand those overpowered Thargoid weapons, just imagine how good Prismatics will be then.

You're both right. Could've sworn the MJ/sec recharge rate between normal and prismatic was the same in an earlier version of ED.

I'm pretty sure you are right on that. I don't know the exact patch, but back in 2015 when we had only standard shield they had flat recharge of 1MJ/s. It took forever to charge your shields back to full (15-20min on anaconda or something equally crazy).

First change was faster recharge in SC, then came Prismatics with PP and behaved the same way. After we got the bi-weave (1.5?) at that point they started to change the relation of the rates of the shields. Unless my memory fails me ;)

When we got bi weaves nothing else changed. Normals and prismats both still charged at 1 mjs.

It wasnt until this january (whatever patch number that was) that the increased recharge rates went live.

Edit- you guys also left out an important milestone. STATIONS CHARGING SHIELDS. Before that, changing the powerplant on an anaconda with prismatisc meant a 30 minute down time.

I have prismatics on my Corvette. They're so strong that you don't need to worry about recharge. With a couple of SCBs, I can stay in a CZ until I run out of ammo. I've managed 13 kills on my own before having to leave a CZ in ceasefire, and with efficient pulse lasers, I can stay in a haz RES as long as I want.

I absolutely love prismatics on Vette.
With G5 Reinforced, two thermal resistant boosters, two resistant boosters and three or four heavy duty boosters (depends if you need KWS or not) you get around 4.5 - 5+ GJ with very good (43-45% thermal, around 60% others) resists. Basically a god-mode - nothing except station guns can defeat it fast enough if you use it properly (that means 4-0-2 at all times).
No need for SCBs - in PVE, you can use reboot at (almost) any time and get 50% shield. Which in this case means 2+ GJ.

Bi-weaves... meh. They add challenge. I hate challenges (especially if imposed by "I Hate Fat Shields" Sammarco) and git gudding in general.

~1000MJ of bi-weave shielding is enough to never loose shields in any PvE scenario in a Corvette without needing any SCBs. Anything beyond that is either a pointless waste or just allows one to be slightly more lazy.

I seriously doubt that the requirement to be able to fight and survive an alien attack will be tighted to a Specific Power play locked module that is situational at best and not really needed for anything PVE related.
