As far as I know, there's nothing special with these. At all. They even consume tobacco and consumer tech in bulk like all other populations in the galaxy.

Came across a couple, mostly outposts rather than stations but nothing special at all. For now.

There's one thing - they tend to be pure extraction economies, so they are a good place to find ore. After the trading was dumbed do... updated in Beta 2, most of the pure extraction economies seem to have disappeared.

Perhaps you don't understand the concept of IMPERIAL SLAVES. They are a different commodity from those labelled purely as SLAVES.

I think that you ought to keep note of prison colonies in case you get a mission to stop an escape in progress or maybe to help a fellow pilot escape while being transported to the prison.
