I have posted this on reddit too and didn't get much of a clear answer on this matter, so here goes.
A friend of mine bought the game a few days ago, he spent about a day cranking it up in Solo until he got a Viper MK IV, the NPCs that interdicted him while in Solo he was able to deal with easily and his interdictions were not numerous. Then we decided to make a private group, I being an average player and him a beginner we never thought of the apparent consequences.
As he advanced in his ways in the bubble and I on a the return journey from 5000ly away, something odd has happened. My friend's encounters with NPCs have been deadly for him, we are always on skype and he sometimes shares his screen so i can guide him and I have seen it twice already, he was interdicted, before he even realized where the enemy is his shields were down at 45% and in two blows he was dead. He had taken a mission less than his Peddler rank and the NPC was definitely above his rank and abilities to take him down. Also he was followed by NPCs relentless that he could not take it anymore and took a break.
It happened for two days until he had no credits left to buy another ship and I thought it must be this: That we are both in a private group and I being a higher level than him, the NPCs that are spawned must be able to deal with both of us in case we want to crank it up a notch, right? We decided to both join Solo again and see what happens. Just a hunch but we gave it a go anyway and surprise! for a whole day he was interdicted by reasonable NPCs he could deal with easily and his interdictions were much much rarer.
My question is now: is this a bug or is this suppose to happen? Will we ever be able to have a private group where we are not decimated by NPCs and just explore peacefully together?
On reddit someone replied to my thread as "Private/Solo should not interfere with the way NPCs behave or spawn, if it does it must be a bug."
I do hope that this is a bug and can be fixed or at least someone here has a decent explanation for what happened.
