Problem with Naval Progression Mission : Elimination Decree

This mission appears to be unfinished : https://www.elitedangeroustrader.co.uk/screenshots/elimination-decree-naval-progression-mission/

When I finally found the culprit in a USS (also not stated), she attacked me on site and became wanted - fine I thought.

So, the fight continued and I got her Clipper down to about 20% hull, when she warped away. Fair play I thought, and having anticipated this I used my already fitted wake scanner and chased her. Found the Clipper again, interdicted her and blew her away.... only to find the mission not completed... (?!!?!)

"Ok..." I think, so I head back to the system to see if I can refind her and am successful... however this time, she fires on me... and I finish the initial scan, to find out she is "Clean" - She shot me, I return fire... However, I now get a 400cr fine and a wanted status - brilliant!

I continue my assault and finish the General off, to find I now complete the mission - but have a 5000cr wanted status now for MURDER... Excuse me? Are you kidding me?

Report it as a bug, the npc is obviously using normal npc behaviour which may include an escape attempt. The mission just doesn't take that into account and expects you to kill the npc in the correct system.

For the part where you got bounty on you, make sure you have the crime reporter on, and for clean ships, make sure that they actually _hit_ you first.

I just did two of those missions, first one almost escaped but I managed to ram it dead just before it jumped, lucky me.
I was afraid of rep loss because they were all green for me, but once they hit me and I have crime reporter on, they are fair game.

When you find it, if you wait until it shot you, it's him who will become Wanted ^^ ! No fine and no wanted status for you after that !

But it's a shame that you can't finish the mission after the fleeing !

I have bugged it, but they have 1000's of other tickets to go through before mine... like 10000 more.

Thats the thing Drag as I said in my OP, I did wait and still got the Wanted bounty and the Murder bounty. She did shoot me first. Frustrating.

Well it's still happening. I just got the same mission (except his name this time was Gen. Miller in another system). After a few USS I found him in his Federal Clipper. Me just in a well specced a Eagle I though it may be tough but it wasn't actually hard to bring his shields down and start pounding away on his hull but at just above 40% he powers up his FSD and despite me being right on his tail he's gone in seconds as if he isn't affected by mass disruption like us mere mortals.

I guess I'll try again and hope next time they don't have the npc chicken AI this time.

You need a bigger ship to mass lock something

An Eagle will never mass disrupt a Federal Dropship.

But it is a bit off you'll need to wait for them to fire first, even though you followed them through SC after round 1 of the fight.

Edit: ninjaed by mugshot :D

First of all - target his power distribution system. This Will eventually render all his major systems useless (shield, fsd, weapon) or Just target his fsd directly.

If he jumps away then dont follow his fsd wake! Just target the nav point and hunt for USS again. Eventually he Will show up again.

The trick is to target his fsd or power distribution system so he cant escape.

Multi-canons eat sub-systems for breakfast.

Thanks for that Arda, good tips. I'll make sure to try that next time I find the target. Anyone know off-hand where the power distributor and/or the FSD are on a clipper? Otherwise I'll just try to work it out based on where the little red square points to :)

Well I tried again, found him and started shooting his FSD module as it was in an easier position to hit than the distributer. I spent ages attempting to wear it down but with fixed burst lasers it was tough to hit one small component all the time. On the plus side his turrets were really quite weak so I could keep at it with no fear of damage myself. Eventually his hull went a little faster than the FSD but luckily there was no sign of him trying to flee. I don't know if it made a difference damaging the FSD - I think I got it to 10% before his hull gave out. I think it's probably random if an npc chooses to flee or not so next mission like that I'll probably just go for the hull and hope I get lucky.

Lasers is great for taking down the shields. Kinetics for taking down hull and sub-systems. A combo setup of lasers and kinetics will make you more efficient in killing npc's. Use your lasers to take down the shields then switch to your kinetic to take down his hull / sub-systems. Fix point systems will make the most damage, but you will have to really aim well. Gimbaled systems have auto-tracking, they do slightly less damage than fixed system, but since they auto-track you will hit more. Turrets do even less damage, but they again can fire in a 360-degree arc. Turrets AI is not really up to the task though. They can suddenly fire at anything-be aware!
.

In any ship set up I would go 50/50 with lasers and kinetics and I would have them all gimbaled. For kinetics, I would use multi-canons. They don’t drain your power system, ammo is no problem and as mentioned before they eat sub-systems for breakfast. Open up with your lasers to drain his shields. As you get under 2km, kinetics is most efficient under 2km, switch to your multi-canons (if you have the power use lasers as well) and let him have it.
.
I always target the power distribution system. His general performance will go down as the percentage of if his power system goes down. The effect is he will move slower and slower. It will take longer and longer before he can use his after-burner. It will take longer and longer for his shield to regenerate and he will go faster and faster out of power for his weapon systems. In the end his ship will be a useless piece of hunk in space- easy to take down.
.
Same goes if you target other sub-systems.
If you target his FSD it will be harder and harder for him to enter FSD. (I am sure this is what happened with your target)
If you target his engines - he will go slower and slower and in the end full stop.
If you target his thrusters - it will be harder and harder for him to turn and in the end he will just spin around in space.
If you target his main power plant and get a critical hit - you will blow him up, regardless of how much hull he has left. That is why power plants are hard to hit.
.
Every player use his own tactics - I’m a power distributer lover :) Experiment and find your own best way.
.
My Cobra set up:
2 x Level 2 Multi-Canons
2 x Level 1 Lasers
Best shields, power distribution, thrusters money can buy.
Power to run it all :)
Chaff
Shield regenerator
-
When a fight starts, or if I get a head on head scenario, I pop a chaff (6 sec of incoming fire freedom so long he don’t use a fixed weapon setup) and hit my afterburners to get close / behind him. Then run the dogfight game as best as possible and always try to stay within 2km. If he win a turn and start firing on me I pop another chaff and after burn behind him again. I use my shield generator as needed, but I seldom have to. A trick when you are in the "turning" game is to use your up/down thrusters. In the turning game, I usually position myself so he is "above" me. I have my flight stick all the way down in order to follow him up and around. The trick in this position is to use your down thruster for a couple of seconds (the same you use when you are landing in a station). This will push your ship further out of the turning arc and as you let go of the down thruster you will have re-positioned yourself in such a way that you can start fire on him again (you won the turning game).
.
Well enough ranting from me - hope some of this is useful to you :)

You can also use your up-thrusters. This will move you inward of the turning arc- positioning you under him. Problem here is the distance "up" to him is so short that your fireing window is really limited. This is a good move if you notice that he is flipping his turn around. You will then end up behind, flip your flight stick forward and you will be in a great position to hunt him further down just behind his tail :)

just did 5 in a row. sometime met opponent on first 3 USS others i had to stop at 20 or so. waited for them to attack me. all went well. rep intact, but i didnt go past petty officer.
