I'm not sure what I did but now every time I hit the 1 key to go to Galaxy Map then press 2 key it goes to chat and not the front view. I have to hit ESC key to get back to front view. Is there a setting to change it back to front view without entering chat?

Change you key bindings in Options > Controls
Go into games options. It is there somewhere because I remember having to change it myself ages ago.
