Newcomer / Intro Problems with getting into open play

Hey guys, just bought the game today, im trying to play with some friends and everytime i select open play and start the game, it throws me into solo. I have my firewall set to allow ED to be played (public and private) after about 3 hours of trying to figure it out on my own ive given up.

Has anyone suffered this issue? Can anyone help me?

You might have just picked the wrong time to buy as the 1.2 patch came out today. If you've been in game playing the combat tutorials but haven't updated to 1.2 then that could be an issue. Try doing a full reboot and then validate game files under options in the launcher to make sure you have the update.

How do you know you're in solo?

if you hit escape it will say in the center of the screen "current game mode: solo"
