Problems with the controls

Hello everyone,

I use the Saitek X56 HOTAS and the throttle controller for ship control. While flying, it often happens that it suddenly jumps to the galactic map without any input. What could be causing this?

Thank you very much for your feedback. The controllers are plugged directly into the PC. However, I am still experiencing ghost inputs.

If it something you can reproduce quickly, try unplugging one of the stick or throttle to see if it is one specific device that causes it.

However, if it happens on either device, but only when you have both plugged in (obvs plus KB, mouse, and whatever else you have) then as people say, the USB power is lacking or you are getting interference on the cables (ports from unshielded internal USB headers are terrible for that.)

One other thing to try - if using Windows - is disabling USB selective suspend in your Power Profile Configuration. Laptops in particular tweak USB to save power.

The sudden and unexpected Supercruise overcharge is probably also caused by these ghost inputs.
Can someone tell me which command I actually use to intentionally start and end this overcharge?

The default boost key key is tab, and when in Supercruise, engages and disengages overcharge.

As you probably already suspect, you’re dealing with a real beginner here. Without wanting to bother you: When I’m at a station in a terminal, the head tracking of the VR headset drives me crazy. Is there any way to turn it off in the control settings?

I had this with my X56 stick for some months. Eventually some of the inputs started to fail completely. I even took the stick apart to check the wiring loom and concluded that one/more of the PCBs had failed. These sticks are a bit notorious for their build quality and if you look at the PCBs inside, it shows. I had tried powered USB hubs, different USB ports, changing the power save modes on ports, a high powered PCIe USB internal card, adapters to USB-C. Nothing worked. I even put chokes on the cables in case of EMI. I bought a VKB to replace it and never looked back.

Still have my X56 throttle. It doesn't cause ghost inputs like the stick did but, again, one of the inputs is failing so soon I'll have to replace this too.

X56 is great and I hope I'm wrong but it sounds like your stick is failing. Whilst I'm sure many have used them for a long time without issues, don't be surprised when they do fail.

Yesterday, I connected the X56 and the throttle to a powered USB hub, and the ghost inputs were gone. Thank God, I can finally cruise through space in peace. I really like the X56 in combination with the throttle — it has loads of buttons.
